Autonomy while aging remains important even with a diagnosis of dementia.
While aging in place may no longer be an option for some, the ability to maintain some autonomy remains crucial and a new living community for those with dementia aims to preserve this.
Modeled after what has been done in other countries, a Wisconsin community is developing a dementia village.
The residential community is underway in Wisconsin, and will resemble a neighborhood, not a nursing home
