Trauma can change the trajectory of someone’s life unless we take steps to help. When an overwhelming event occurs, the brain's rational, language-based part (the frontal lobe) shuts down. The sensory, emotional, and physical pieces of the experience get stored, or essentially frozen, in the survival centers of the brain.
