Erin Shuck, QLI Occupational Therapist, began by creating a space of mindfulfulness during a LoveYourBrain session - inviting participants to slow down, breathe deeply, and reflect during their practice. As an official Clinical Affiliate of LoveYourBrain, QLI integrates mindfulness and intentional movement into rehabilitation and recovery.

This week, Team QLI was proud as we watched our President and CEO, Nash Mahupete, Maria Lighthall, Aaron Mason and representatives from Ambassador Health and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital testify in favor of legislative bill 1091.

We believe this bill is essential as it will ensure countless Nebraskans like the ones we serve receive the care and rehabilitation they desperately need after a catastrophic injury.

We are grateful for the engagement of numerous stakeholders throughout this process, including members of our legislature, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Medicaid program.

Kylee Mueller. 26. Wayne, NE

Kylee sustained a debilitating stroke after a routine visit to the chiropractor. She was left in a locked-in state and was unable to move or speak, despite her brain being awake and functioning. Her life was thrown into chaos.

After her first rehabilitation stay at QLI, Kylee proudly walked out our doors. She regained her voice and moved back home to Wayne, Nebraska.

Months later, Kylee returned to QLI with a fierce sense of determination and a new set of goals. She wanted to return to work, drive a car, and walk her dog, Ryder, again.

Will DeLaet. 20. Omaha, NE.

Faith, family, and friends - centering tenets for Will that keep him laser-focused on his recovery. Having just completed his sophomore year as a finance major at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Will had a misstep while attempting a backflip. A maneuver he had landed flawlessly many times in the past, left him with a severe spinal cord injury.

The accident may have altered Will's path, but it did not shake his belief that everything will work out. His optimistic attitude, grit, and resolve inspire many others at QLI as Will continues to face each day with a sense of gratitude.

"I'm very thankful to be here. The whole community is amazing, and I could not have done it without everybody."

It takes extraordinary clinical expertise to deliver QLI's complex, purpose-driven mission. It takes an even greater level of mastery to teach it, model it, and instill it in the next generation of health care professionals. This month, students from Creighton University Department of Occupational Therapy and the University of Nebraska Medical Center - UNMC learned firsthand from QLI, whose depth of knowledge and real-world experience set the standard in spinal cord injury, brain injury, and stroke rehabilitation.

A special thank you to our residents, whose willingness to share their personal stories of rehabilitation and recovery brought this learning experience to life.

Bob Northup has long known the value and reward of hard work, but he’s also taking time to explore life outside of his career. Bob partnered with his QLI Vocational Specialist, Drew Verts, to coordinate a visit from the expert anglers from the . They presented to our group about all the ins and outs of the art and beauty of this wonderful sport.

Thank you to the cast at Cornhusker Fly Fishing Club. We were hooked!
