"Jermaine Jones. I manage and oversee the Scholarship & Outreach Programs for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands. I also lead our organization's Mental Health Initiatives.

It's important to talk about mental health because each human being deals with mental health, just as everyone deals with their own medical health. Far too often, we overlook our mental health or dismiss what we may be feeling internally.
Working with youth for over 20 years, I have seen just how impactful the mental health of young people is to their own social wellbeing, including their academic and personal success or struggles.

As an advocate for mental health, I personally make sure to never take someone's thoughts or feelings for granted. I can personally attest to the heartache of losing close friends due to su***de, including my nephew, or witnessing relatives struggle with various mental health related issues.
When a person expresses any struggles they may be dealing with, I take it seriously immediately. As a society, we need to stop dismissing one's feelings and provide support. Help your loved one, your friend, your co-worker, or the individual who has started to isolate.

No matter your circumstance or fortune, we all benefit from the power of love. Take care of your mental health."

If you or anyone you know is considering su***de or self-harm or is anxious, depressed, upset, or needs to talk, call or text the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988.

This season, we’re grateful for the people who show up — the listeners, the encouragers, the quiet supporters, and those who remind us we’re not alone.

Mental health is a community effort, and every act of care matters.

"In order to progress in life, you have to take care of your mental health. Life can be hard, and in a time where people feel more lonely every single day, I think it is important that we are kind to each other.

I encourage everyone to pay attention to their mental health, and the mental health of the people around them."

As we begin our Thanksgiving preparations for next week, let’s also take a moment to be mindful of one another’s well-being.

Holidays can bring both joy and challenges, especially when it comes to making safe and healthy choices around alcohol and substance use.

This Thanksgiving, remember to reach out if you or someone you love needs support. We’re all in this together.

"Mental health & well-being is the invisible reason for how we move through the world. So many people suffer in silence, and the reason for that is because the stigma surrounding mental health. We need to have way more empathy for people in this world. Everyone has a story."

"Mental health is a forgotten problem. It is too important for us as a society to keep quiet about. We need more conversations about mental health with no stigma. It's okay to get the help you need.

I have people in my life I care about and I don't want them to think that they are alone. Better days are possible."

Feeling a little down as the days get shorter? You're not alone. Seasonal depression, or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), affects many people as autumn turns to winter.

Here are a few ways to help brighten your mood during this season:

- Let in Natural Light: Open those blinds and take advantage of any sunshine.
Sunlight can boost serotonin and improve mood.

- Stay Active: Regular exercise, even just a walk outside, can lift your spirits and relieve stress.

- Connect with Others: Isolation can make symptoms worse, so reach out to friends, family, or support groups.

- Be Kind to Yourself: Remember, it’s okay to feel this way. Take it day by day and prioritize self-care.

If you're struggling, you’re not alone. Talking to a mental health professional can also make a big difference.
