Grip strength/forearm strength is paramount for overhead athletes and especially pitchers!
Why?
The forearm flexor muscle group attaches in the exact same spot as the ulnar collateral ligament aka the Tommy John ligament. This muscle group is active or “turns on” when we have the proper deceleration pattern (NOT a linear movement pattern). This requires pronation, shoulder IR and adduction.
Here’s an example of an easy way to implement forearm strengthening. Draw the alphabet with your hand while holding against resistance.
