Pioneer Hospital & Medicine
Most Nebraskans do not know that we have one of the coolest pioneer hospital museums in the US. Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park is by Ord, Nebraska. It is a completely preserved old pioneer military fort. It has a completely preserved old military hospital. This includes historically accurate herbal medicines. It is a very cool historical site.

Diet & Dementia
A newer long term study showed that people who changed their diet had a 35% reduction in dementia rates. The study showed genetically that people with the APOE4 genes also had a 35% reduction in dementia rates.

This study is important for many reasons. One, it shows diet can change genetic expression. This is well known, but seldom discussed in modern medicine. The study also showed patients with two APOE4 genes from both sides showed the same reduction. Medically people with this double genetic dose are considered almost guaranteed to develop dementia at some stage in life.

Three, it showed diet was dose dependent. This means being more strict to the diet had bigger effects.

What was this diet used??? Just the simple basic Mediterranean diet. Nothing fancy!

Overall the study shows simple healthy diet can shape our genetic expression positively.

The award-winning Mediterranean diet helps prevent dementia, especially in people at highest genetic risk, according to a new study.

Plants Evolving by De-Evolving?
There more evidence that plants can de-evolve. This means they return to older genetic traits or make chemical defenses not seen for millions or thousands of years. It seems this is evolution still, as plants are selecting to bring back old defenses that worked.

No, this does not mean your garden tomatoes will be toxic to eat, like they were in ancient times. It is an interesting observation. It is almost as if science is saying that plants have a "memory" and remember what has worked in the past.

Scientists discovered that the fruit is getting more toxic thanks to the return of an ancient defense mechanism.

Peptides and Safety
I have a lot of personal concerns about the safety of many peptides being used. They are often promoted by health influencers and some health influencers. These are often promoted as natural.

Just reminding everyone that natural medicine follows certain principles. One, the products we use should be natural. This term is often misused widely. Second, we follow the core belief of “do no harm”. Here we don’t mean potentially cause other side effects or safety concerns.

We must factually understand that most all peptides are not researched for safety. We could also say they are approved drugs that have been tested for side effects or effectiveness. The main concern is side effects both long term and short term.

We could discuss a lot of topics related to safety. Considering most of these are injected and made by no pharmaceutical companies, there are many safety concerns.

Let’s take a look at a popular peptide, BPC-157. I will defer to an expert cardiologist to make the key points. Video link posted here.

Peptides fall into an odd category. They have side effects as any isolated chemical does. Bigger concern is for serious side effects. I don’t recommend any plant without being able to educate a patient on any of its possible negative effects. This is informed consent and education. We don’t really have that with peptides.

Please take a minute to watch this video to hear a great explanation of the many concerns with peptides. I just want everyone to be safe.

Another key point is that there are many safety concerns natural plants that can increase secretion of your body’s own endogenous peptides. We know the safety value of them for long term use too.

Nebraska River's Article
NY Times just released an excellent article on tubing Nebraska's spring fed rivers. It is such an excellent article. This is where we spend most the summer vacations with the kids. Good to see it get some publicity.

Favorite Meditation & Affirmation
I am more reserved about sharing some of the deeper principles and techniques of natural healing. I decided to honor one of my first and most beloved teachers - Pete Medicine Eagle. He spent so many hours with me, supporting me and teaching me so much wisdom. I would not be the person I am today without him.

Today I am sharing one of the simple meditation or positive affirmations he shared with me. This is a very simple technique that only takes a few minutes a day. The more you can calm down, breath, relax and then go through the process . . . the more powerful it will feel. It can be easily adapted to any other technique or to fit into any belief system.

It is one of the best ways to reset your body, mind and mood. It is a great way to start the day, take a rejuvenating break or end your day before bed. Playing some relaxing music at the same time is helpful.

It is not my technique or insight, so I felt it was important to share. I hope it has the ability to make everyone's day a little brighter and more relaxed. It is something I used for more then 25 years and find it to always be helpful. It is a great simple way to put your mind into proper alignment.

Part Time Opening
We will have a part time opening for a lab tech and ordering person for the clinic. The position would be for two or three days a week. The position would be mostly making and compounding formulas. Ordering, stocking and inventory would be another task. Helping with support other office activities and classes are also part of the position.
