PharmD student Aiden Brock presented his research at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in New Orleans, evaluating how quickly small rural hospitals deliver care for STEMI heart attacks.

Supported by his research scholarship and mentored by Alessandra Campos-Staffico, PhD, Aiden found that while rural hospitals perform similarly on initial ECGs, delays in treatments like clot-busting medicine and artery-opening procedures show clear opportunities to save lives.

Aiden says: “Rural communities are easily forgotten as nothing more than corn fields. It is imperative that healthcare providers continue to advocate for improved care in these areas.”

Jays for Peds is a powerful example of Creighton students living out our Jesuit mission of serving for and with others.

This interprofessional student group supports the pediatric community through wheelchair cleaning, adapting ride-on cars for children with mobility challenges, volunteering at Wellness Day and more.

“As an interprofessional club, we collaborate and learn from one another’s disciplines to better understand how we can serve the pediatric population,” shares Kylee Roper, vice president of Jays for Peds.

Their impact is seen in the kids they serve and in the growing compassion and collaboration among members. 💙

Last week, our Pre-Pharmacy Skills Lab Immersion hosted more than 30 Creighton undergraduate students for a two-hour, hands-on learning experience. Students rotated through multiple stations led by our Omaha pharmacy students, exploring real skills used in the profession.

It was a wonderful opportunity for undergrads to ask questions, try new techniques and see what pharmacy education looks like at Creighton. And equally meaningful for our pharmacy students to mentor the next generation. 💙

💙 Second-year distance pharmacy students Deborah L. Jorge Guzmán and Gabriela Díaz are serving as mentors for the Semillas de Triunfo (Seeds of Success) STEM Ambassadors Program with Ciencia Puerto Rico, guiding middle school girls to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

For Deborah, the opportunity to mentor is deeply personal.

“I was inspired to become a mentor because I believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities,” she said. “Growing up in Puerto Rico, I saw how mentorship in STEM can open doors for young women who might otherwise doubt their potential.”

Through the program, she hopes to help girls see that “STEM careers are not only achievable but deeply rewarding” — showing them how persistence, curiosity and compassion can create real change in their communities.

We’re proud of Deborah and Gabriela for representing Creighton and inspiring the next generation of Puerto Rican women in STEM. 🇵🇷✨
