💪 Fit Tip of the Week

🍌 When to Eat a Banana

Bananas are not only portable, versatile, and delicious but also contain fiber, are high in simple carbs and low in fat. They are a good source of energy and potassium, which can help support muscle function and prevent cramping during exercise.

According to Healthline, "Those wishing to maximize their performance May benefit from eating a banana before or during a workout. Those wishing to optimize the recovery May benefit most from eating a banana after a workout."

Keep in mind, while bananas are a healthy snack, it's important to consume them in moderation as part of a balanced diet, eating just one or two a day.

🍌 So eat a banana to "peel" great!

💪 Fit Tip of the Week

Posture Check-In

⏱️ Set a timer every 1-2 hours to quickly check your posture -- shoulders back, chin tucked, core engaged. Having good posture prevents neck, back and shoulder strain over time.

🪑 If you're sitting for long periods of time, don't forget to get up and move around frequently, even if it's just for a few minutes.

👟 If you're on your feet for extended periods of time, make sure to wear comfortable, supportive shoes.

By implementing these tips and incorporating regular exercise, you can improve your posture and reap the numerous benefits it offers for your physical and mental health.

The USDA recommends that half your plate be filled with fruits and vegetables." Also, choose lean meats, skinless poultry or omega-3-rich salmon or white fish.

💦 Stay hydrated!
Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

🏊‍♀️May 17th is National Learn to Swim Day! Swimming offers numerous health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, muscle strengthening, weight management, and mental well-being. "Swimmers have a 28% lower risk of early death and a 41% lower risk of death due to heart disease or stroke compared to non-swimmers," according to a study commissioned by Swim England. It's low impact so it's easy on joints making it suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. So beat the heat and go swimming! 🏊‍♂️

💃 Celebrate the spirit of Cinco de Mayo by moving to the rhythm of Latin dances like salsa, cha-cha and rumba!

Not only are they fun, but they also boost your heart health, build strength and flexibility, and improve coordination and balance. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) say that Latin dance has been demonstrated to promote physical health by helping people lose weight, improve cardiovascular health and increased muscle strength and tone.

So grab a partner (or go solo!) and hit the dance floor -- your body and soul will thank you.💃

Start small - just 10 minutes.
Add a quick 10-minute walk into your day. It may seem small, but consistency is EVERYTHING. A study published in Harvard Health found that adding just 10 minutes of exercise to a daily routine was associated with a 7% decrease in mortality rate. Little by little, those minutes add up to BIG results over time.🚶

Laura (born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and moved to Omaha, NE in 2009) understands the fitness industry from many perspectives. Laura graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor's degree in Physical and Health Education and has over 30 years of experience in personal training/fitness consulting. As an international bodybuilding competitor for 14 years, she captured the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in 1999, as well as the European and Canadian Championships. She is a five-time Ms Olympia competitor and five-time Arnold classic competitor.
