Meet “Bionic Betty.” 🦾

After seven surgeries with OrthoNebraska — including knee, hip, shoulder, and spine procedures — Betty just returned from a 20-day trip to Kenya and Uganda, where she hiked six miles through the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to see gorillas in the wild at 8,000 feet of elevation.

“Without their excellent care, I would not have been able to do this. My fellow travelers gave me the nickname of ‘Bionic Betty.’ Thank you to all my surgeons and all the other staff at OrthoNebraska that cared for me so well every time I was there.”

Comeback Athlete Spotlight: Preston Hastreiter 🏆

Preston’s journey is the definition of perseverance. Battling Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) and multiple injuries, he never let setbacks stop him. With the support of his OrthoNebraska care team, especially Advanced Practice Provider Sonya Wemhoff, he’s gone from youth baseball to starting freshman pitcher at Northeast Community College.

His story is about resilience, discipline and turning challenges into triumphs.

💪 Comeback Athlete: Ashton Burroughs

When a wrestling injury left Ashton Burroughs with a broken ankle, he worried he wouldn’t make it back in time for baseball. But with hard work and the support of his OrthoNebraska therapy team, he hit his goal: running again by tryouts that spring.

Since then, Ashton has grown stronger, led his team to a 2nd place state finish, and is now training for his junior season with eyes on Varsity.
