We talk about your “skin barrier” a lot, but what actually is it? 🧐

Your skin barrier (the stratum corneum) is the very top layer of your skin. It’s made of tightly packed skin cells held together by lipids like ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids.

🧱 Think of it like a brick wall:
• The cells = the bricks.
• The lipids = the mortar.
Its job is simple but essential: Keep moisture in, keep irritants out!

When the barrier is damaged, you’ll notice dryness, redness, flaking, burning, and sensitivity… especially in winter or after using harsh products. Keeping this “wall” strong is crucial for healthy skin.

Newborn skin can be surprising, especially when no one tells you what’s normal. 🤍

Red patches around the eyes or cheeks, peeling skin on the hands and feet 👣, tiny white bumps on the nose, blotchy color changes, and cradle cap are all common in the early weeks. A newborn’s skin is adjusting to life outside the womb, and while it can look dramatic, it’s often harmless.

Simple care is best! Gentle cleansing, minimal products, and patience help protect their developing skin barrier. Have a concern? We’re here for you and your little one. 🫶

Happy to all our natural redheads out there, we adore you! 🍓 Redheads have a unique type of melanin called pheomelanin, which means:

• You naturally produce less UV-protective pigment.
• You burn faster and easier.
• Even cloudy winter days can give you a surprise sunburn.

So whether you’re building a snowman or just walking from your car to Target, SPF is still your best friend! Celebrate your beautiful skin. 🙌 And know we’re always here to help you protect it.

Eczema flares more in January…

If you’re feeling extra dry, itchy, or inflamed, you’re not imagining it. Winter air is tough on sensitive skin.❄️🧣🧤

A few things that help:
• shorter, lukewarm showers
• thicker moisturizers
• gentle fragrance-free products

If your skin is really struggling, we’re here to help you get it under control!

When even your bobblehead knows sunscreen is non-negotiable. 🧴😄

Dr. Rensch, taking “practice what you preach” very seriously… all the way down to miniature SPF!

Friendly reminder from the real (and tiny) doc:
• Sunscreen = every day, not just beach days.
• Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.
• Reapply every 2 hours if you’re outside.
• Yes, even in NE. Yes, even when it’s cloudy.

If your sunscreen isn’t part of your daily routine yet, consider this your sign. ☀️

🕯️‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the hall, dry winter skin had come to visit us all.

But bottles of skincare stood ready to go, helping Nebraska stay bright in the frost and the snow.

Then in walked Santa with a worried sigh, sun spots and dryness he couldn’t deny.🎅
“No sunscreen?” we asked.. he gave a small grin. “Let’s fix that fast and freshen your skin.”

So here’s to a season of joy and good cheer! And healthy, glowing skin to start the new year.
