Family gatherings can be beautiful… and also stressful. Differences in communication, old conflicts, and big expectations often surface during the holidays.

The good news? You can prepare your heart with grace and wisdom:
• Know your emotional triggers
• Plan grounding strategies (deep breathing, taking breaks, checking in with a supportive person)
• Set clear boundaries on time, conversations, and expectations
• Remember — there is no “perfect” Christmas

When you embrace imperfection and focus on connection, you give yourself and others the gift of peace.

Christmas events can pile up fast, work parties, school programs, family gatherings, volunteering, errands… and suddenly the season feels anything but peaceful.

Here’s a gentle reminder: You’re allowed to slow down.

Try asking yourself:
• Is this essential?
• Does it bring me joy?
• Will it give me energy?

And don’t forget to schedule downtime just like any other commitment. Rest is not laziness — it’s stewardship.

Reclaim the margin you need to enjoy a meaningful, Christ-centered Christmas.

This year, try simplifying your approach to gift giving:
• Set spending limits
• Focus on meaning, not monetary value
• Make something heartfelt if you’re able
• Remember that time together matters more than what’s under the tree

When we release unrealistic expectations, we make room for peace, gratitude, and Christ-centered joy.

Addiction doesn’t begin in one place, and it doesn’t end in one step. Trauma, emotional pain, generational patterns, and even attempts to fill unmet needs can all play a role. Addiction impacts the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.

True healing needs the same holistic approach.

Research-based models help us understand the roots of addiction, but spiritual practices, reflection, prayer, Scripture, and compassion, often open the deepest pathways to lasting transformation.

When we walk with those struggling with addiction through patience, love, and hope, we reflect Christ’s heart for restoration.

If you or someone you love needs support, you’re not alone.
There is hope. There is healing. We’re here to help.

Have you ever wondered why part of you wants change and another part pulls you back? This internal tug-of-war is real, and it’s normal.

IFS therapy offers a powerful way to understand these internal parts and invite them into healing. When we reconnect with our Core Self, characterized by compassion, creativity, confidence, and clarity—we begin to live with deeper balance and purpose.

Romans 7 reminds us that internal conflict has always been part of the human experience. But healing is possible. Growth is possible. Integration is possible.

If you’re navigating internal struggles, you don’t have to do it alone. Reach out, we’re here to help.

Today, we pause and give thanks, not just for the blessings that are easy to see, but also for the quiet ways God is working in our lives, healing hearts, restoring hope, and walking with us through every season. At Spence Counseling Center, we are grateful for the individuals and families we are honored to serve. Your stories, your courage, and your trust mean more to us than you know.

As you gather with loved ones today, may God fill your home with peace, joy, and a renewed sense of gratitude.
May He comfort those who are hurting, strengthen those who feel weary, and remind every heart that they are seen, loved, and held by Him.

From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.

Illicit substance use continues to rise across America, but behind every statistic is a story, a person trying to cope, survive, or numb pain they can’t put into words.

Addiction isn’t just a physical problem or a psychological one. It affects the whole person: biologically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

That’s why compassion matters.

Scripture reminds us to comfort others as God comforts us, to share one another’s burdens, and to respond with love even when it’s difficult. In recovery, these truths become lifelines.

With supportive counseling and spiritual formation, prayer, reflection, community—healing becomes possible. Lives can change. Hope can be restored.

If you're ready to take the next step, we’re here to walk with you.

Do you ever feel like there are two versions of you—one that wants to grow and one that wants to stay safe?
You’re not alone. Many people experience internal conflicts that feel confusing, overwhelming, or even paralyzing.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy helps us understand these “parts” of ourselves—some that protect, some that carry pain, and some that keep life predictable. As we explore these parts with compassion, we reconnect with our Core Self, the place inside marked by clarity, calmness, curiosity, and courage.

As our parts heal, we begin living more fully into the person God created us to be.

If you’re ready to understand your inner world more deeply, we’re here to walk with you.
