When I first became a lactation consultant, I thought my job was to make sure every mom breastfed successfully. 🤱

Spoiler alert: that is not my job. 😂

My job is to make sure every mom feels supported, empowered, and confident in whatever feeding journey is right for HER and her baby.

Breastfeeding. Formula. Pumping. Combo feeding. All of it. Valid. All of it. Worthy of support.

I learned that early in my career when a dad called me a breastfeeding N**i because of a bad experience with a previous provider. That moment changed everything about how I show up for families.

Nobody should ever leave a lactation appointment feeling guilty, pressured, or judged. Ever.

You are already doing an incredible job. You grew a human. You are feeding that human. You are showing up every single day even when it is hard and you are exhausted and you just want someone to tell you it is going to be ok.

It is going to be ok. 💙

Breastfeeding tip Tuesday! 🤱

Can we talk about nursing pillows for a sec?

They can be GREAT. But they are not all created equal and they are definitely not one size fits all.

You want a pillow that brings your baby to ni**le height where your breast lies naturally. Before you hoist, lift, or do any kind of architectural engineering with your b***s. 😂

If your pillow is too high, too low, or has you leaning forward like you're trying to smell your baby's head the entire feed, it's not the right pillow for you.

Sometimes a regular couch pillow works better. And that is completely fine!

If you're not sure what's working or why your back feels like you've been hunched over a desk for 12 hours after every feed, that's what I'm here for. 💙

Can we normalize the fact that some days you are absolutely killing it and some days you are using dry shampoo for the third day in a row and eating a granola bar over the sink for lunch? 😂

Running a business, raising kids, and being a whole entire human person is A LOT.

I see you mamas. I really do. Because I am right there with you most days.

The laundry pile is judging me. Vivian has had waffles for dinner twice this week. And I once used body wash as lotion for an entire week without noticing. 😂

You are not failing. You are just doing a lot.

Today, March 16th, TenderTouch Lactation is closed in remembrance of my mom. 💛

Three years ago, I lost my biggest cheerleader. Not a day goes by that I don't hear her voice in my head pushing me forward, and today I'm taking the time to honor her memory.

IT'S IBCLC DAY AND WE ARE CELEBRATING!! 🎉🎉🎉

Today we honor the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants who are out here in the trenches every single day. Showing up at your door. Answering texts at all hours. Crying with you. Cheering with you. Sizing your flanges. Assessing your latch. Calming your fears. And doing it all because we are committed to supporting families through one of the most vulnerable seasons of their lives.

To every IBCLC out there doing this sacred, beautiful, rewarding work - I see you. I am SO proud to stand beside you. What we do matters more than we will ever fully know. 🙌

And to the families who let us in - thank you for allowing us to be part of your story. You are the whole reason we do this.
