Last week our clinic team stepped away from the day-to-day to come together for a staff retreat focused on strengthening what matters most: teamwork, collaboration, and supporting one another. Throughout the day, our team participated in engaging discussions and presentations on Emotional Intelligence and Dignity & Respect, exploring how the way we communicate, listen, and support each other directly impacts the care we provide to our patients and the culture we build together.

Of course, we also made time for some fun! From interactive team-building games to plenty of laughter along the way, it was a great reminder that strong teams are built not only through learning, but also through connection. We’re grateful for a team that is always willing to grow together, support one another, and continue building a workplace where everyone feels valued.

This spring’s UNMC dermatology resident retreat was equal parts productive and delicious. ☕🌸

We kicked things off at Dr. Zabel’s house with mentorship, big ideas, and strategic planning, powered by coffee and Sweet Magnolia’s treats (the true fuel of academic medicine).

Next stop: Clio’s for amazing food and cake while celebrating so many exciting life milestones within our program 🎉🎂 Because what’s a retreat without a little joy and a lot of carbs?

To balance things out, we took a sunny afternoon stroll to soak up the warm weather and pretend we were burning off dessert. 🌞

We wrapped up the day with more coffee and snacks at Hardy’s Coffee just as the clouds rolled in, because dermatology residents know that good conversations (and caffeine) should never end too early.

A day full of mentorship, milestones, laughter, and a little strategic planning in between. Safe to say this retreat was a hit! ❤️ - Dr. Clark

Dr. Adams, our Department Chair, just returned from Ecuador after visiting a partner hospital where we’re collaborating to expand dermatologic care and planning to launch a dermatology trainee exchange program. She received a warm welcome from colleagues — and some local wildlife, too!
