Wayne Simmonds, founder of FBG Facility Services, and Arlo Luke of Varsity Facility Services first saw each other as rivals. Through their involvement in BSCAI - Building Service Contractors Association International, that perspective changed. Over time, competition turned into collaboration and a lasting friendship that helped shape the industry.

This story was shared in a special live episode of Contracting Conversations recorded at Contracting Success 2025 in Las Vegas. The conversation highlighted how relationships built through the association have helped elevate professionalism, share best practices and create opportunities across the building service contracting industry.

FBG has proudly been part of BSCAI since 1966, and the relationships built through the association continue to strengthen our industry today. Collaboration, education and shared experiences are what move us all forward.

Congratulations to Olivia Thier on being recognized with FBG’s Stability and Growth Value Award!

Since joining FBG in October 2025, Olivia has quickly become a dependable part of the Des Moines District team. As an Evening Floater, she keeps operations running smoothly across multiple locations while also supporting and mentoring new team members.

Recently, while helping train a new hire at a newly opened five story city building in downtown Des Moines, Olivia noticed something others might have missed. She recognized the employee’s potential to grow into a float role and shared her insight with leadership. That observation helped the employee join the operations team, where they have been thriving and supporting the district.

From mentoring teammates to helping the district adapt and grow, Olivia’s leadership, reliability and eye for people’s strengths make a real impact every day.

At Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95, our team made the most of the empty halls during spring break to get ahead on important deep cleaning projects. Program Manager Eduin and team member Bryan were busy moving furniture at Isaac Fox Elementary School to prepare for additional detailed cleaning while students were away.

It’s all part of making sure schools return from break to a clean, healthy environment for learning.
