Our Story

Free Weights & Freedom was founded in 2015 in Omaha, Nebraska by Adam Tripp, a retired United States Army Warrant Officer and Veteran of 4 combat deployments along with Jason Collins, prior United States Navy and current Army National Guard Officer Candidate. Our mission was to help local First Responders, Veterans, and their family members overcome physical and emotional issues related to job induced stress. As a combat Veteran and former spouse of a First Responder, Adam had a unique perspective of how stress affected the individual and the family members. In 2015, Free Weights & Freedom began hosting free fitness classes in Adam’s home garage for Veteran’s and First Responders. The social aspect and bonding from the group environment brought immediate improvement in the members physical and emotional wellbeing. Looking to expand the program, Free Weights & Freedom met with representatives of Mayor Stothert’s team and organized a 12-mile road march in support of First Responders and Veterans that saw 200 people participate and raised over $8,000. In 2017 Free Weights & Freedom partnered with the Omaha Police Activities for Community Engagement (PACE) program. Adam and Jason served as volunteer Crossfit coaches for Kinship CrossFit at Christie Heights Community Center in South Omaha. PACE is comprised of Omaha Police Officers and provides sports activities for underprivileged children in South Omaha. In late 2017, Sara Porter joined the Free Weights & Freedom Board, as her brother is an Army National Guard Veteran and currently a firefighter with the CBFD. Sara is passionate with her support for First Responders and Veterans, about fitness and also heavily involved in the community.

Our organization’s mission is to provide a holistic group fitness and wellness program specifically designed to help First Responders, Veterans, and their family members recognize, address, and overcome issues related to their physical and emotional wellbeing due to occupational stress.
