December Therapist's POV from Compassionate Minds Therapy

As therapists, December is… a whole vibe. Here’s what we’re seeing:
✨ Everyone is “totally fine.”
(Translation: hanging on by one peppermint mocha.)
🎁 Holiday boundaries?
We’re practicing saying “No” the way Mariah Carey hits a high note—confident, dramatic, unbothered.
🧣 Seasonal stress?
Yes, we’ve heard 14 versions of “I love my family… but also, please send help.”
Totally normal. Fully valid.
🕯️ Self-care in December:
Sometimes it’s meditation.
Sometimes it’s hiding in your car for 7 minutes before going into an event.
🌟 New Year pressure:
You do NOT need to reinvent your entire life on January 1st. Surviving December is already a win.
💛 At Compassionate Minds Therapy, we’re cheering you on.
Take your deep breaths, set your boundaries, and remember...therapy is here for the holly jolly chaos too.

🍁 Thanksgiving can be complicated — and that’s okay. 🍁
At Compassionate Minds Therapy, we know the holidays don’t feel joyful for everyone. For many, Thanksgiving brings stress, loneliness, grief, family tension, or chaos that can make this season feel overwhelming instead of comforting.
If you're noticing those feelings, you’re not alone. There are ways to care for yourself:
❤️ Coping Strategies for a Gentler Holiday:
1. Set boundaries early.
It’s okay to say no, limit the length of visits, or step away from conversations that feel draining.
Example: “I’m going to take a quick walk outside. I’ll join back in a bit.”
2. Prioritize small moments of calm.
Give yourself permission to pause when things feel hectic.
Example: Take 5 slow breaths before entering a crowded room or step into a quiet space for a grounding exercise.
3. Stay connected, even in small ways.
Loneliness can feel bigger during the holidays. Reach out to someone who feels safe, even with a simple text.
Example: “Thinking of you today, hope you’re doing ok”
4. Create your own traditions.
If old traditions bring stress, it’s okay to build new ones that feel nurturing.
Example: A morning walk, journaling before dinner, or making your favorite comfort meal.
5. Practice self-compassion.
Your feelings are valid. You don’t need to be cheerful, productive, or “on” to be worthy of care.
🧡 If this season feels heavy, Compassionate Minds Therapy is here to support you. You deserve peace, connection, and space to breathe — today and always.

As the seasons change, so can our moods. Many people notice a dip in energy, motivation, or mood as daylight hours shorten — this is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
💡 A few ways to support your mental health this season:
✨ Get outside and soak up natural light when you can
✨ Keep a regular sleep schedule
✨ Stay active — even light movement helps boost serotonin
✨ Connect with others, especially when you feel withdrawn
✨ Consider light therapy or talking with a therapist if symptoms persist
Remember — you’re not alone in this. Compassionate Minds Therapy is here to help you navigate the darker days and find your light again.
