On Friday March 24th the Phoenix Health Sciences Campus held its first IPE Day. On this day 6 teams consisting of nursing, medicine, pharmacy, EMS, OT, and PT made their way through several stages of a stroke case. Throughout each stage teams collaborated to create and deliver the best plan of treatment, explained the perspectives of their professions, and observed as other professions performed their assessments and treatments. Pictured here is the Home Health Stage where OT and PT performed an intervention with the patient.
Students had some great feedback about IPE Day and getting to work together with the other professions:
“Participating in today's stroke simulation has instilled me with a greater appreciation of the roles and responsibilities of each profession. Medicine, when done collaboratively, can truly enhance both the patient and provider's experience. Moving forward, if there is a mobility, pharmacologic, or ADL issue I am noticing in my patient, I will rely more on my colleagues to address the issue.”
“I loved interacting with the other disciplines and think this was a very practical experience to have so we could all learn about the continuum of care of our patients and what others can do in each part of it. I would love to participate in another day and think this would be a great event to have every semester!”
