Victory Riding Academy, Inc.

Victory Riding Academy, Inc. Victory Riding Academy is a Gold Star Horses4Heroes facility offering affordable horse activities. We are funded 100% by donations and grants.

Victory Riding Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded in 2010 and achieved non-profit status in June of 2012. In addition, VRA was accepted and registered as a Horses4Heroes Gold Star riding facility in October of 2012. Victory Riding Academyโ€™s mission is: Improving the quality of life of our students with equine-facilitated activities. To help the students Persevere (maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles or discouragement); Overcome (succeed in dealing with a problem or difficulty); and Conquer (to gain a victory over) any of lifeโ€™s challenges. Our program is offered to members of the military, veterans, police, fire, first responders and their families. Whether itโ€™s defending our country, our city or helping individuals in crisis, the men and women who perform these services and their families are often the ones who need help in the aftermath of executing their duties. Equine assisted therapy is a successful avenue of healing in many ways. A horse by virtue of being a herd animal is tuned into emotions and body language. This is profoundly helpful for those who cannot or do not wish to participate in verbal therapies. It is clinically proven that being around horses can change human brainwave patterns in a positive direction. In addition, the movement pattern of a horseโ€™s gait on a human rider is rhythmic and repetitive which can improve stability and equilibrium.

Truth: The horse possesses a highly effective ๐ŸŒก thermoregulation system. Piloerection gives the horseโ€™s hair coat the ability to stand up, lay down and change direction via hair erector muscles trapping warm air and creating an insulating layer. Blanketing prevents this ability and if applied long term can cause hair erector muscles to atrophy. Any muscle can atrophy without exercising for a period of time.

โ„Extreme cold.
โ„Underweight, older, or compromised individuals.
โ„If appropriate shelter from wind and precipitation is not available.
โ„Shivering.
If required, provide a variety of thicknesses appropriate for the current weather. Be mindful of the fact that they canโ€™t take it off if they get hot or change into a warmer blanket if they get cold and that the entire body heats up or cools down. โ€‹

โ€‹โ€‹Allow your herd to live and eat together full time. Doing so promotes๐Ÿ‡ movement and provides the psychological and physical comforts ๐Ÿ˜Š of a herd animal. Hierarchy will always exist, but the majority of time aggressive ๐Ÿ˜ก behavior is associated with food aggression. If free choice forage ๐ŸŒฑ is available, the intensity of dominant combative behavior typically subsides.

โ€‹Avoid using ๐Ÿ’ก artificial lighting, which discourages the growth of a full winter coat. A horseโ€™s hair coat changes twice a year. Sensors in the horseโ€™s skin react to the duration of โ˜€ light and ๐ŸŒ™dark hours. The horse will start to grow their winter coat after the summer solstice as days shorten and will start to grow their summer coat after the winter solstice as days get longer.

Stalls can be colder than being outside. The โ„ coldest time of day is just before the sun rises and when it does, a stalled horse remains standing - in the shade! Being outside gives them the ability to move and bask in the โ˜€ sun to warm up.

Offer appropriate shelter 24/7 that they can A three-sided shed or stall will ensure protection from the wind and gives them the ability to stay dry. With these options available, they have a choice of where they are most comfortable. It alleviates the task of moving horses from one enclosure to another depending on weather conditions.

โ€‹Avoid bathing, which removes the natural oils in their coat that help to protect their skin from getting wet. A healthy diet, parasite control and sufficient healthy omegas produce glowing hair coats that don't look dull while retaining the natural oils on the skin and hair that repel dust and water. Win - win, no need to bathe!

Good morning everyone. It was a bit chilly this morning but it was a great morning for a number of reasons:
1. God breathed another breath of air in our lungs
2. The horses were all upright and not shivering
3. The water tanks were not frozen

So many others were could list. Have a great and Blessed Day.

Please take a moment and read how your support has impacted one of our clients.

We've been at VRA for over four months, and my daughter is now six years old. The positive differences in her are immense. Not only has she been taught foundational work regarding respect and love for the pony she is working with, but she has also been provided with outstanding patience and direction from Jodee, her instructor. Jodee takes every step in building a relationship with a horse just as seriously as the actual riding of the horse. We never enjoyed this at her previous barn and are beyond thankful.

My daughter has learned that to ride her pony, she must build trust, which results in respect and confidence. It's a confidence I never saw my daughter having all the time we took lessons at the other barn. The fear and anxiety I used to see in her when she was leading a horse or even approaching one has completely diminished. Jodee and her team also encouraged her to embrace her creativity instead of pushing to be perfect, which has carried over into everyday life. It has helped her not to be so hard on herself, embrace learning experiences, and not reject or panic over them.

She has blossomed at VRA, not just in equestrian, but also as a person. VRA provides more than just horseback lessons; they teach life skills and have helped my daughter manifest the grace needed in personal development. My daughter's knowledge, confidence, and progression have grown quickly, and I am excited to see what comes next for her at VRA.

But for now, we will keep enjoying the present and have fun through every laugh, lesson, and memory we make together. Thank you to everyone at Victory Riding Academy. You truly are angels in disguise.
