Prebiotics and probiotics... what’s the difference, and why do they matter?

Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that live in your gut.
Prebiotics are the fibers that feed those bacteria and help them thrive. They work as a team to support digestion, gut health, and overall well-being.

In eating disorder recovery, rebuilding trust with food also means supporting your body’s systems as they heal. That can include foods with probiotics (like yogurt or fermented foods) and prebiotic fibers (found in many everyday foods like fruits, veggies, grains, and beans).

No single food is “magic,” and you don’t need a perfect diet to support your gut. All foods fit, and variety over time helps your body get what it needs.

Gentle nourishment, flexibility, and consistency matter more than perfection. 🌱

Most people don't eat enough.....

FIBER

As a Registered Dietitian, I focus on simple strategies that make consistent nutrition easier.

Small additions, like making this easy chia jam and adding it to foods you already eat, can significantly increase your fiber intake.

So why is this jam amazing - CHIA SEEDS.

✔ Naturally thicken the fruit
✔ Add fiber + omega-3 fats
✔ Create that perfect, spreadable texture

Paired with raspberries and maple syrup, this jam is bright, sweet, and made with only a few ingredients 🍓

No canning. No complicated steps.

📌 Follow for more practical ways to support your health with simple food swaps.

Just as seasons changes, so do our clothes and our bodies. Many of us are digging out clothes that we haven't worn in a while. Maybe you are finding that some of the items don't make you feel like they did when you first bought them or maybe they don't quite fit the same. Remember clothes are meant to fit you, you are not supposed to fit them. In order to feel your best, you need to have clothes that you feel comfortable in now. This is why we are holding a clothing swap.

Throughout April, we’re collecting new or gently used clothing at our office, and Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd from 1-4 pm we're hosting free shopping days where anyone in the community can find clothes that fit comfortably—at no cost. The event will be held at our office at 9202 W Dodge Rd, STE 110.

We understand that bodies change and your clothes need to change with you but it can be hard to purchase clothing in a different size, especially if you anticipate your body changing. That is why we are hosting a 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝗽.

When we talk openly about eating disorders — in schools, families, healthcare, and online spaces — we reduce shame and increase understanding.

Awareness isn’t about labels. It’s about recognizing struggles, challenging harmful narratives, and making support feel more accessible.

At Life Cycle Nutrition, we believe education is a powerful part of recovery. The more we speak about it, the less alone people feel.

Let’s keep the conversation going.

Generalized nutrition guidelines are not best for everyone. As individual, we each have different genetics, lifestyles, preferences, etc which also means that we have individual nutrition needs. What one person needs might not be enough for someone else or what one person needs less of another person might need more of. Sodium is one example. For those with high blood pressure or other cardiovascular risk factor, sodium intake is something that is regulated. However, those with low blood pressure, POTS or Cystic Fibrosis need additional sodium in their diet. If you'd like to learn more about your individual nutrition needs, schedule to meet with one of our specialized dietitians: https://lcnutritionomaha.com/schedule-now/
