Compassion & The Liver – Healing Starts With Self-Kindness
We all want to feel better—physically, emotionally, energetically. But healing isn’t always instant, and it isn’t always linear. Some days, we make progress. Other days, we feel stuck in old patterns. And that’s where self-compassion comes in.
In Chinese medicine, the Liver is deeply connected to emotional flow. When the Liver is healthy, we feel flexible, adaptable, and able to move through challenges with ease. When it’s stagnant, we can get frustrated, impatient, or overly critical of ourselves.
The truth is, real healing takes time. Whether you’re working through physical symptoms, emotional stress, or breaking old habits, it’s a journey—not a switch you can flip overnight.
Self-compassion helps the healing process because:
☯︎ It keeps Liver Qi moving. Being hard on yourself creates emotional stagnation, which can make symptoms (like tension, headaches, or fatigue) worse.
☯︎ It allows space for real change. When we stop shaming ourselves for setbacks, we actually open the door for progress.
☯︎ It reduces stress, which helps the body heal faster. Stress creates tightness and inflammation—kindness toward yourself helps soften that tension.
Healing doesn’t happen because we criticize ourselves—it happens when we learn to support ourselves, even when it’s hard.
So today, I invite you to try a little self-compassion. If your body isn’t healing as fast as you’d like, or if old habits resurface, meet yourself with kindness instead of frustration. Your body is always working toward balance, and giving yourself grace will only help the process.
