The holidays are a special time of year to connect with loved ones –even if by Zoom or FaceTime – and holiday traditions are usually centered around comfort food and the dinner table.

Our dietitian Megan highlights a few tips to help ensure you enjoy the holiday without the worry of ruining any dietary goals or guidelines that one may follow because of a chronic diagnosis.

1. It would be just 𝙬𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙡𝙚 to forget the most important meal of the day! Studies show those who eat breakfast tend to eat healthier throughout the day.

2. Another 𝙩𝙪𝙧key to success is to be mindful of portions when eating your holiday favorites. Fill half of your plate with non-starchy vegetables or fruit before adding the starchy, carb-heavy items. And save room for the protein!

3. Slow your 𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙨 (i.e. eat slowly). It takes your brain about 20 minutes to realize how full you are. Enjoy the flavors and chat with family and friends in between bites to allow the food to settle and your body to process.
