After two wrist surgeries with Dr. Lesiak and occupational therapy with Corey McChesney, Anna Gill is back on the green for the University of Nebraska at Kearney!

Anna shared that after seeing multiple doctors who didn’t offer lasting relief, Dr. Lesiak truly listened and worked with her to find the right solution to get her back to golf — pain free.

While recovering, Anna worked with Corey, who went out of his way to support her progress while she was home from college, creating exercises and progressions to help her stay on track. His encouragement and belief in her recovery pushed her to return to the game stronger than ever.

Congratulations to Sami Richardson, PT, DPT! Sami was inducted into UNO's Athletic Hall of Fame this year.

"It's an honor and a privilege to be considered amongst the greatest athletes in UNO's history," said Sami. "My time at UNO helped shape me into the person and therapist I am today, and I am beyond grateful to now use my talents to help athletes achieve the same successes."

Sami earned a tremendous number of accolades at UNO. Highlights include:

The Ultimate Turkey Trot Survival Guide 📝

If you've skipped training or if this is your first race, listen up — your PT knows the best ways to keep you running pain-free.

Here are our 3 essential tips to finish strong and enjoy your pumpkin pie after! ➡️

1. Don't wear old shoes. Your race-day shoes should have at least 100 miles left in them. Worn-out treads and cushioning are a fast track to knee and foot pain.

2. Focus on form (not speed!). In a rush, people often forget their mechanics. Keep your stride light, short and quick. Land softly and avoid 'overstriding' (extending your foot too far in front of your knee).

3. Avoid immediately cooling down. As soon as you cross that finish line, keep moving! Walk for 5–10 minutes, and then do some gentle static stretches (holding them for 30 seconds). This is crucial for flushing out lactic acid.

Former OrthoNebraska patient Grace Petersen is back on the court and stronger than ever after completing therapy for a knee and ankle injury at our Oakview campus. 🏐

"I worked with a few physical therapists and doctors to set up a plan to get me back in the game at a fast but safe rate. Completing my rehab and reviewing my progress allowed me to find relief and get back on the court for the rest of my season. It was a tough and long process, but with [my physical therapist] Jayden and Doctor Arnold guiding me through I was able to make it back for Nationals and play for my school."
