One of the biggest scams we face is dietary supplement culture and products that promise you healing and wholeness.
You cannot supplement or diet your way to a healthy, responsive nervous system. What you ate in your childhood isn't the cause of what trauma did to you.
It might help for awhile, but you will regress if you are not doing the emotional and psychological work.
These modalities are great at ASSISTING you as a tool to stop feeding pathogens and toxins you have stored as a result of being in dorsal shutdown(in this state, your body doesn't care about proper digestion or nutrient extraction anyways).
Our bodies already have built in mechanisms of defense and detox against these things when you are able to engage in the parasympathetic system(rest, digest, repair, reproduce).
Eat to feel good, to love your body and to support your healing journey. Highly restrictive diets reinforce deep-seated patterns of shame and the functional freeze response. You become scared of everything you consume. Your entire day starts to revolve around what you eat. That isn't helping your already overwhelmed nervous system.
And if you are going to address your diet and begin using supplements as tools to heal, please do so with a naturopathic doctor or someone qualified to give dietary or supplemental advice. Not a "health" influencer peddling products that are capitalizing off of your desperation.
Eat real WHOLE foods and again, please work with a professional who is qualified to give functional advice on supplementation to support you as you do the deep work.

Without a relationship to your emotions, it halts the ability to self regulate. And if you cannot self regulate, you are still reaching for ways to heal outside of YOU. When you claim agency for yourself and develop the ability to self regulate, that’s where the healing happens.

10 things I would never put on or in my body if I were trying to heal a dysregulated nervous system, chronic symptoms or autoimmunity:
1-Alcohol
It’s a nervous system depressant that rebounds into anxiety, poor sleep, and inflammation. Calm now, chaos later.
2-High-dose caffeine (especially on an empty stomach)
Adrenaline ≠ energy. If you’re already dysregulated, caffeine just turns the volume up on the stress response.
3-Artificial sweeteners (aspartame, sucralose, etc.)
They disrupt gut–brain signaling and can increase anxiety, headaches, and nervous system irritability.
4-Ultra-processed foods with seed-oil overload
Chronic inflammation keeps the nervous system stuck in survival mode. Your gut is your second brain. It produced 95% of your serotonin, significantly influencing mood, stress and emotions.
5-Fragrance-loaded body products
Synthetic fragrance is a neurotoxin for sensitive systems. Headaches, agitation, hormone disruption..hard pass. Essential oils are a great alternative. You can make your own, develop a signature scent and its is far more cost effective and Earth/fellow human friendly.
6-Nicotine (va**ng, smoking, “social” use)
It spikes dopamine and cortisol, then crashes you. Regulation cannot happen in a constant stress-reward loop.
7-Sugar, besides naturally occurring in whole foods.
Refined sugar and processed grains negatively impact the nervous system by promoting chronic neuroinflammation, inducing oxidative stress, and impairing cognitive function. High intake causes blood sugar spikes that lead to brain fog, fatigue, mood swings, and a reduced capacity for memory and learning.
8-Skincare or makeup with endocrine disruptors
Your skin is your largest organ. What you put ON your skin enters your bloodstream.
9-Food I’m eating while rushed, dissociated, or panicked
Even “healthy” food eaten in fight-or-flight trains the body to associate nourishment with danger. (Hello chronic gut issues). Sit down, put down your phone, breathe deeply, chew slowly and thoroughly.
10- Anything I’m using to numb instead of feel
