Mille Lacs Health System is working to address a Medicare billing issue that is affecting rural hospitals across Minnesota and beyond.

Due to a federal system error, payments for care that has already been provided are being delayed, creating financial strain for many small hospitals, including MLHS.

We want our patients, staff, and community to know that services remain available, and our care teams continue to provide exceptional care as we always have.

Our leadership team is actively working with state and national partners to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

💙 March is National Kidney Month, a time to raise awareness about kidney health and the importance of early detection.

Kidney disease often develops without symptoms, but it can have a serious impact on overall health. Conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure are leading causes, making routine monitoring especially important.

At Mille Lacs Health System, nephrology care is available close to home. Dr. Jeff Skogen provides diagnosis and management of kidney disease and related conditions, working closely with patients and their care teams to support long-term health.

If you have concerns such as high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney stones, or swelling, talk with your healthcare provider about screening.

💙 March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of screening for one of the most common cancers affecting both men and women.

Colorectal cancer often develops slowly and may not cause symptoms early on, which is why screening plays an important role in detecting concerns before they become more serious. The American Cancer Society recommends that people at average risk begin screening at age 45, while those with certain risk factors may need to begin earlier based on their provider’s recommendation.

Throughout March, Mille Lacs Health System employees are wearing blue ribbon t-shirts to help raise awareness and encourage conversations about the importance of screening and early detection. Proceeds from this year’s shirts raised $900 to support colorectal cancer research.
