Starting hospice care earlier can give patients and families more time for symptom management, emotional support and improved quality of life. While most patients only experience its benefits for days or weeks, hospice is available when a physician certifies a life expectancy of six months or less. Timing makes a meaningful difference.

When a caregiver in the early stages of her IVF pregnancy learned that an expensive, critical medication was suddenly no longer covered by insurance, she turned to Mary Sarrazin, Sr. Benefits Specialist, for help. Mary sprang into action, escalating the issue and advocating until the medication was approved.

Her colleague shared: “Mary’s actions truly demonstrated all of the Amedisys SPIRIT values, especially her passion, integrity and respect. I am thankful to work for a company that has an HR department dedicated to helping their employees.”

I love that my visits with my patients are not rushed and I’m able to spend more time providing emotional support and getting to know them and their families. Being able to spend extra quality time with my patients and their families shows them that I sincerely care for them and that I am someone they can rely on. I always make sure to let my patient families know that we are not only there for our patient but for their family as well."
