Your shoulder takes on more than you think—and the AC joint is right at the center of it all.
The acromioclavicular (AC) joint is where your collarbone meets the highest point of your shoulder blade. It plays a key role in overhead movements, lifting, and everyday activities—but it’s also one of the most commonly injured parts of the shoulder.
AC joint injuries (often called “shoulder separations”) can happen from falls, direct impact, or sports-related contact. Symptoms may include pain at the top of the shoulder, swelling, limited motion, or a visible bump.
While many AC joint injuries can be treated with immobilization and rehab, more severe separations may require surgery. Our sports medicine specialists have the expertise to get you put back together and on the road to recovery—safely and effectively.
Don’t ignore shoulder pain—early evaluation can make all the difference in recovery and long-term function.
