Strong foundations build confident readers ✨

Learning to alphabetize with an alphabet arc might look simple, but it’s a powerful, brain-building skill!
When students place letters and word cards in order, they’re strengthening:

🔤 letter recognition
🧠 sequencing skills
👀 visual scanning
📚 dictionary & reference skills
🗂️ organization of information

For students with dyslexia, these foundational skills are especially important. Alphabet arcs provide hands-on, multisensory practice that helps anchor letter order and reduces cognitive load so their brains can focus on reading and spelling, not just remembering “what comes next.”

Plus… it feels like a game, not work. And that’s where the magic happens 💛

This is the kind of explicit, structured practice we love using at Leaping Literacy Dyslexia Therapy. It is building skills step by step so students grow with confidence.

📚Reading is a skill, not memory!

If a child memorizes 10 words, they can only read 10 words.

However, when a child learns the sounds of 10 letters, the possibilities expand dramatically. They can read👇

• 350 three-sound words
• 4,320 four-sound words
• 21,650 five-sound words

As dyslexia therapists, we don’t rely on memorization. We teach the structure of language and how sounds connect to letters so reading finally makes sense.

This is the foundation of structured literacy and evidence-based dyslexia intervention.

🧠 Reading is not a memory task.
📖 It’s a skill that can be taught explicitly and systematically.

The way we teach reading has changed because our understanding of the brain has changed. For years many classrooms relied on cues, guessing, and leveled texts to help children figure out words. Now we know that strong readers are built through explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and knowledge.

This side by side chart shows the shift from old habits to research based practice. It is not about blaming teachers of the past. It is about growing together and doing better for kids today. When we understand how reading actually develops, our instruction becomes clearer, calmer, and more powerful.

Every child deserves teaching that matches how the brain learns to read.

Tell me in the comments what surprised you most on this chart.

🧠✨ Think Jenga is just a game? Think again. ✨🧠

Did you know it can be engaging and effective for ALL learning levels? We love using it and our students do too!

In this lesson, the student is reading, answering comprehension questions, and practicing reading strategies while playing. Games like this keep students motivated, focused, and actively thinking without it feeling like work.

At Leaping Literacy Dyslexia Therapy, every lesson is:
📚 Prescriptive – tailored to the student’s exact needs
🔍 Diagnostic – based on continuous assessment
🎯 Intentional – building skills with purpose

Learning in motion at Leaping Literacy! 💚

Our student tapped out the CVC word first, then jumped and twisted on the Twister mat to land on the correct short vowel sound.

This high-engagement activity builds strong letter–sound correspondence while keeping learning fun and active! 🟢🔴🟡📚✨

Early identification matters so much. 💙📚

Those years are precious. Early screening and intervention can change a child’s entire learning journey building confidence, closing gaps, and unlocking potential. The sooner we act, the more we can support children in becoming strong, capable readers.

Let’s choose awareness. Let’s choose early action.

Progress doesn’t mean perfection. It means showing up, trying again, and building skills one small, powerful step at a time. When students are given the right support, instruction, and encouragement, they don’t stay stuck, they grow in confidence, independence, and belief in themselves.

Today’s effort becomes next year’s breakthrough.

Dyslexia therapy in action ✨🧠

Students are working hard to identify the phoneme that changes, using hands-on manipulatives to make learning stick.

We turn it into a game by drawing cards and going student vs. teacher to see whose board fills up first 🎯

Learning + movement + a little friendly competition = BIG engagement.

And yes… the kids love it 😄

The Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity, has long highlighted that the majority of students identified with Specific Learning Disabilities struggle with reading, particularly decoding.

This statistic comes from decades of U.S. research on reading and learning disabilities.
Dr. Sally Shaywitz, author of Overcoming Dyslexia and co founder of the Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity, has long highlighted that the majority of students identified with Specific Learning Disabilities struggle with reading, particularly decoding.

Large scale research and state guidance documents consistently summarize this as approximately 70–80% of students with Specific Learning Disabilities having reading related difficulties, including decoding challenges.
While this data is based largely on U.S. special education systems, the pattern is consistent internationally.

Reading difficulties, not lack of effort or motivation, are the most common reason students struggle.

This is why early screening and explicit, systematic instruction through a structured literacy approach matter so much.
