📚Reading is a skill, not memory!

If a child memorizes 10 words, they can only read 10 words.

The way we teach reading has changed because our understanding of the brain has changed. For years many classrooms relied on cues, guessing, and leveled texts to help children figure out words. Now we know that strong readers are built through explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and knowledge.
