Naomi Prejean recently underwent major back surgery, a type of operation she has unfortunately experienced multiple times before. But this time, she experienced inflammation, swelling, redness and pain. She immediately called The Wound Treatment Center for a consultation.
Dr. Thibodeaux quickly saw Naomi and immediately recommended Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). She admits being very apprehensive about entering the HBOT Chamber, but the staff helped her gain confidence and eased her anxiety. Because of their encouragement, she was able to complete the required three-week treatment plan.
Naomi credits Dr. Thibodeaux and the nurses at The Wound Treatment Center for providing excellent treatment and compassionate care for her incredible recovery.

Fourth year VCOM student, Daniella Patel, recently completed research with Dr. Kerry Thibodeaux. It focused on the use of donated graft material derived from axolotl dermal cells. They applied this to patients with small, chronic wounds that had not healed with standard therapies. Remarkably, many of the wounds closed after only a few applications, and no complications.

While in Las Vegas, Daniella also had the opportunity to engage with companies showcasing their products and attended lectures from physicians of diverse specialties, which broadened her understanding of the rapidly evolving field of advanced wound care.

Collectively, both the research with Dr. Thibodeaux and the conference were invaluable learning experiences that deepened her appreciation for the challenges and innovations within wound management.

Congratulations Daniella!

May is HYPERBARIC AWARENESS MONTH.

Our body’s tissues need oxygen to function.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing 100% pure oxygen while in a hyperbaric chamber. The air pressure inside is raised to a level that is higher than normal air pressure. This increased air pressure helps the lungs collect more oxygen, getting it to the tissues that need it to help the body fight certain infections.

HBOT is used to treat 14 approved conditions, such as acute carbon monoxide intoxication, diabetic foot wounds/ulcers, gas gangrene, crush injuries and more.

The Wound Treatment Center at OGHS is the leading HBOT center in the state with over 30 years of experience, providing state of the art HBOT care on a wide spectrum of conditions.

The month of April is designated as NATIONAL LIMB LOSS and LIMB DIFFERENCE AWARENESS MONTH.

The goal is to educate the public about limb loss and difference—including its causes, prevention, and the challenges faced by individuals living with limb loss. It also recognizes the strength and resilience of individuals with limb loss and difference community and to foster a bigger sense of inclusion and belonging.

Prevention is also highlighted: the importance early intervention, managing risk factors like diabetes and vascular disease, and promoting safe practices for those at risk.

….but TWTC practices limb loss and limb difference awareness *every* month as we educate our patients on a regular basis regarding their risk factors, prevention practices and strive to help our patients with limb loss feel included and work towards helping them get the resources they need to thrive after the loss of a limb.

The ultimate TWTC goal is to avoid patient limb loss always.
