Cold weather can be tough on healing wounds. In sub-freezing temperatures, keep wounds clean, dry, and well-covered, and dress warmly to support circulation. Keep these tips in mind.
· Keep wounds covered and dry. Cold air can slow healing and increase the risk of infection.
· Dress in layers. Extra warmth improves circulation, which helps wounds heal.
· Avoid exposing wounds to extreme cold. Cold temperatures can damage healing tissue and delay recovery.
· Change dressings promptly if they get wet. Moisture plus cold can increase infection risk.
· Stay hydrated. Proper hydration supports circulation and skin health—even in winter.
