October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

This month, we stand together to break the silence and support survivors of domestic violence.
1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner violence in their lifetime — and too many suffer in silence.
At Southwest Louisiana Primary Healthcare, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, loved, and respected.

If you or someone you know is in danger, you are not alone.
📞 Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)
💬 Text: “START” to 88788

Let’s shine a light, offer support, and end the cycle of violence — together. 💜

🦴 Today is World Osteoporosis Day!
Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle, making them more likely to break — even from a small fall or bump.

It often develops silently over time and is most common among:
👩🏽‍🦳 Women after menopause
👨🏾‍🦳 Older adults
💊 People with low calcium or vitamin D intake
🚭 Individuals who smoke or live inactive lifestyles

The good news? 💚 Osteoporosis can often be prevented and managed with regular screenings, a healthy diet, exercise, and bone-strengthening medications when needed.

Let’s Talk About Health Literacy

Understanding health information shouldn’t feel overwhelming. This October, during Health Literacy Month, Southwest Louisiana Primary Healthcare is shining a light on how clear communication can lead to better health for everyone.

When patients and providers speak the same language — not just with words, but with understanding — care becomes stronger, safer, and more personal.

🩺 Health literacy isn’t just about reading a brochure or remembering instructions.
It’s about feeling confident enough to say:
✔ “I don’t understand — can you explain that another way?”
✔ “What does this medicine do?”
✔ “What are my next steps?”

Because when you understand your care, you can take charge of your health — and that’s empowerment.
