Hey everybody! We want to introduce our team, one team member per week, so you get to know us! I figure I will get the ball rolling. My name is Tammy D. C**n, aka “Bam”. I am blessed to be the President of Golden Manes of Valor and a proud retired veteran of the United States Army, serving honorably for 28 years. Earning my master’s degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma has equipped me with a strong foundation in leadership and service.
I have a lifelong passion for horses that began in childhood, dedicating my life to combining my love for equines with my deep commitment to giving back to the community. Through my leadership and service, I strive to make meaningful impact, guided by integrity, compassion, and purpose.

Our Story

Golden Manes of Valor, founded in the heart of Henderson County, began with the inheritance of Sandbur Ranch, 27-acres in Western Illinois. In 2024, our President lost three family members (her sister, mom, and stepdad) who shared a love for horses, the outdoors, philanthropy, and those with special needs. Through this tragic loss, our journey began. In our logo, Golden represents her sister’s blonde hair and the elderly; Manes represents their love for horses; the Spots represents her mom and stepdad's appaloosa horses; and Valor represents the military and first responders.

Our team has extensive experience in health care, supporting the elderly, and training horses. Two of our team members are retired from the U.S. Army. Together we empower individuals of all ages and abilities to find healing, joy, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Healing Through Equine & Nature

Golden Manes of Valor, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, provides life-changing equine and non-equine therapeutic activities to veterans, first responders, elderly, and children in need throughout Henderson County Illinois and surrounding areas. The nucleus of our services is centered around our mini-horse therapy. Our horses may be miniature, but their impact is tremendous!

Equine assisted therapies are backed by research showing measurable benefits for physical health, emotional well-being, and social functioning across all ages. This includes improved social and emotional skills, increased confidence, along with reduced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and anxiety.
