Healing children. Teach.

At UC Irvine’s Department of Pediatrics, helping children lead healthier lives is more than a mission — it’s our passion. Through our three strategic priorities — Discover. Heal. — we are committed to excellence in pediatric care, education, and research to improve the lives of children throughout Southern California. We bring real-world academics, scientists and clinicians together — all in a single department — to collaborate, uncover new knowledge through research, and effectively apply that knowledge to advance children’s health. The result is simple: We take better care of children today, and we work tirelessly to bring them a better future. DISCOVER - TEACH - HEAL

Hello,

Today, April 18th, the Gender Diversity Program is participating in UCI’s Giving Day Campaign. In previous Giving Day campaigns, we have raised much needed funds that allowed us to continue expanding on the resources, services, and support that we provide to the transgender community. However, this year our program and transgender health programs like ours, are fighting for our survival.

In 2023 alone, over 451 anti-LGBTQ bills have been proposed. While many of these bills have been directed at the entire LGBTQ community, the transgender community has been receiving an increased level of hateful rhetoric and legislative attacks. 44 states have proposed anti-transgender bills targeting transgender and nonbinary people in school, athletics, public facilities, and healthcare.

We are calling on our allies to help us continue fighting for the community that we serve. The Gender Diversity Program goes beyond providing gender affirming medical treatments, we provide training to current and future medical and nursing professionals. We are leading the way in increasing LGBTQ inclusiveness for all patients accessing care at the UCI Medical Center and beyond.

How you can help

Share our campaign within your network! We need help with getting the word out about our campaign and our efforts. This post is public and shareable!

Today you can donate to our campaign. No amount is too little, and every dollar goes towards our goals of increasing access to gender affirming mental health services and expanding transgender health research. The link to share will be: https://givingday.uci.edu/giving-day/71230/department/71314

We hope that you join us in the fight against anti-transgender rhetoric and discrimination. Transgender and nonbinary people are deserving of equitable access to healthcare and existing authentically.

New evidence suggests that even though that may happen on occasion, breakthrough infections might not represent the threat to others that scientists originally thought.

Are vaccinated people who get COVID as likely to spread the infection as unvaccinated people? Scientists don't think so.
