At 43, Heather had a physician order for a screening mammogram, but like many people, she didn’t make it a priority.

Her doctor had been encouraging her to schedule it for over a year. Between hearing negative experiences from other women and imagining a cold, clinical hospital setting, it always felt easier to wait.

With encouragement from a friend, she finally made the appointment.

“Even as a young girl, I knew I wanted to be a doctor…”

For Dr. Lisa Guerra, inspiration came from her grandmother, an Army nurse and educator who encouraged her passion for medicine and believed surgery would be the right path. That encouragement, along with her grandmother’s own breast cancer journey, ultimately led Dr. Guerra to pursue a career in breast surgical oncology.

Today, Dr. Guerra is a board-certified, breast-dedicated surgeon at Breastlink Newport Beach, with expertise in areas such as oncoplastic surgery, intraoperative radiation therapy, and the management of high-risk patients. She has also contributed to breast cancer research and clinical trials, helping advance care for women in our community.

This Women’s History Month, we’re proud to celebrate the physicians whose dedication and compassion continue to shape the future of women’s health. 💗
