The cutest vernixy little buns😍 Vernix Caseosa is the white creamy substance on baby’s skin that offers a number of benefits when left on and rubbed in after birth!

Delaying bathing and keeping vernix on baby’s skin will:

🦠 Provide antimicrobial protection to baby’s skin. Vernix is rich in amino acids and protects baby from harmful bacteria and pathogens.

💦 Moisturize and hydrate the skin. Vernix smoothes the transition from an environment surrounded by fluid to the dry air by protecting baby’s skin from dehydration and cracking.

🌡️ Help regulate baby’s body temeperature along with lots of skin-to-skin with parents.

🧼 Act as a skin cleanser and antioxidant.

It’s common practice for doctors and nurses to immediately wipe off baby’s vernix after birth, but let your provider know beforehand that you would like to leave it on. This is a great item to add to a birth plan! But you’ll likely still have to enforce it in the moment.

Even though American hospitals have held onto many outdated practices, professional groups like the World Health Organization and the National Association of Neonatal Nursing actually recommend leaving it on.

When Jesus came, it wasn’t peaceful. An inconvenient trip, a poorly timed labor, a less than desirable location, no midwife or doula. Just a young couple suddenly thrust into welcoming new life amidst the shifting of hooves and rustling of hay.

Can you imagine the urgency - the fear - when Mary told Joseph, “I think it’s time”? and yet another innkeeper tells them, “we don’t have any room.” It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. He is the Messiah.

But there in that stable amidst the darkness of the lengthening shadows, perfect light was born. Amidst the cries of pain, fear, chaos and uncertainty, our peace was born.

This Christmas may find you in an imperfect place. Situations that are outside our control, an empty seat, a broken heart. It’s not supposed to be this way - it’s Christmas!

But this is the Christmas He came for.

He came to rescue us from the hurt, the fear, the chaos and unmet expectations. He came to hold us in our grief, give us hope of Heaven, comfort us in the uncertainties and sit with us in our loneliness.

He came to shine His light in the darkest of corners, to bring peace to a broken world. He came to give the gift that we’re all searching for - that is what Christmas is about.

Thank you E for teaching me how to be a mom and sacrificing your birth so that I could blossom into who I was supposed to become🌼

The cashier at the store asked if I was baking today as I was buying four dozen eggs and I said “actually yes, it’s my son’s birthday today!”

And when she said “well happy BIRTHday to you!” I for sure teared up. Random people in the world recognizing how meaningful birth is fills me with so much hope and joy🥲

At birth, 1/3 of baby’s blood is still in his placenta and the umbilical cord continues to work. It’s still transferring blood, oxygen, and stem cells to your baby while he adjusts to life outside the womb. It’s God’s wise design that protects your baby while he transitions to using his lungs for the first time.

Delaying cord clamping until it’s white and stops pulsing ensures that all of baby’s blood returns to his body after he’s born. It’s not extra blood. It’s his blood that he needs. To deny a baby of this is denying them of:

🩸1/3 of their blood volume
🩸an increase of red blood cells by 60%
🩸an additional 40-50 mg/kg of iron
🩸an infusion of stem cells which play an essential role in the development of the respiratory, immune, cardiovascular, and central nervous system
🩸a decreased risk of needing resuscitation.

Say no to immediate cord clamping and cord blood banking 🫶🏼

Today we remember all the angel babies lost to miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death👼🏼 while knowing that all they knew was their parents’ love before they were safe in His arms!

Sending love to all the moms and dads of loss. May you grieve not without hope because you will see your babies again🤍

This past week, churches were full.

People prayed more than they ever have.

Those who have never spoken about their values are now boldly calling out evil and standing for truth.

God’s plan all along was spiritual awakening and revival. From within darkness He promises to reveal truth and guide us toward Him.

Charlie Kirk was a gift to a culture that had fallen spiritually stagnant - a messenger sacrificed to expose evil and draw us closer to God. And his legacy continues to inspire us after he’s gone.

Remembered for his courage and faith❤️🤍💙
