Warm and cozy Vata balancing and ojas boosting breakfast.
I've been eating a lot of oatmeal this winter.
It may not look super thrilling but it is soothing to my digestive system and ultra nourishing.
In Ayurveda, ojas is the final product of digestion - the source of our immunity and vitality.
All 7 layers of tissues must be built before ojas is produced which is why a healthy diet is essential.
I usually add two dates to my oatmeal - the ultimate ojas booster!
Dates are packed with essential vitamins and minerals. They are sweet and heavy helping to balance Vata's dry, rough and light qualies.
I also added h**p seeds and a few chia seeds. H**p seeds, also packed in vitamins and minerals are heavy, oily and sweet. Again balancing Vata's dry, light and rough qualities.
I add a bit less chia seeds as they are a little harder to digest but have a mucous building component that helps the digestive system stay slippery preventing constipation and other digestive woes - gas, bloat, driven by Vata doshas.
Spiced with Ceylon cinnamon, a bit of ginger (both to warm Vata dosha and balance the coolness of the dates and h**p seeds) and a bit of nutmeg. Nutmeg is a nervine, also warming in nature - it is soothing for the nervous system.
Your spice cabinet is chock full of medicine.
"Let food be thy medicine."
What are you nourishing your body with this snowy morning?!
