Med Access International is a nonprofit that organizes annual medical missions across Central and South America. Each summer, 50–70 volunteers spend a week providing care to thousands of patients and performing more than 100 surgeries.

In July 2025, the mission served Latacunga, Ecuador—a 9,000-foot Andean city two hours south of Quito—where poverty is widespread and the local hospital faces a backlog of 1,300 surgical cases. Dr. Melissa Lopez participated in this year’s mission, offering gynecologic care and tubal ligation surgeries.

A few of our OB Hospitalists, Dr. Rhoads, Dr. Warsheski, and Dr. Butler at the SOGH Annual Meeting in Seattle two weeks ago. It was a great conference hosted by the Society of Ob/Gyn Hospitalists and we are so glad we were able to attend!
