“After training and a hard lift and I headed up to to get in a 90 minute sensory deprivation float tank session.... “wait, a what?! A float tank is a private space where you can experience freedom from your senses. It is a light proof enclosure, usually filled with 10 inches of water and 1000 lbs of dissolved Epsom salt. This solution is heated to skin temperature allowing you to feel weightless and free from your senses.
Because of the tank being light proof and sound proof, your senses are deprived and your mind is put into a odd but amazing forced meditation.. for us, 90 minutes worth.
Why are so many athletes like Steph Curry so vocal about the benefits of floating?
Floating helps with: normalizing sleeping patterns, maintaining blood pressure, relaxation, lowering stress and stress related hormones, enhancing focus and awareness, it improves creativity, strengthens the immune system, helps with pain relief, recovery from injuries, performance in sports, alleviates depression and anxiety, lowers inflammation in joints, reduces addictive tendencies, assists with recovery from jet lag, and more.
For me, I sleep incredibly well after (Big plus!) I love the meditation aspect >>> sitting for 40+ minutes can have huge befits but it’s also very painful for the body. With floating we can increase the meditation to 60-90 minutes easily.
In a deeper, longer meditation, I feel I am able to connect to a higher source of wisdom where I get my best ideas, creative spurs and clarity and leave with a deep sense of calm
Best part about floating? My body feels amazing. Everything realigns to where it should be and I come out feeling brand new, reading to get back in the gym and crush my body again!
I like Steph’s quote as it aligns with my experience with floating so far "It's refreshing to process what I thought about over an hour of floating, which are probably the most important things that are going on right now in your life," he says. "I have a very clear head when it's done, and it shows in the days after floating. It gives me a nice boost of focus and perspective. The more I do it, tHe more i get from it”
