This morning we were joined by Hpcanys Albany NY and Assemblyman Patrick Chludzinski as well as other hospice leaders and advocates from across Western New York to support bipartisan legislation that would protect nonprofit hospice care in New York State.
The bill, now before Governor Kathy Hochul would prohibit the creation of new for-profit hospices. Research has shown that for-profit hospice programs provide fewer clinical visits, admit fewer complex patients, and offer fewer community benefits. Nonprofit hospice programs exist to serve patients and families, not shareholders, and today’s press conference underscored the importance of keeping that mission strong.
Our Chief Clinical Operations Officer, Cary Sisti, and CEO & Chief Medical Officer, Christopher Kerr, MD, PhD spoke alongside statewide and local leaders about why safeguarding nonprofit hospice care is essential for quality, access, and community trust. We’re proud to stand with our partners across the region to ensure that families continue to have high-quality, nonprofit hospice care they can rely on.
