Not necessarily lactation related* but I’m inviting you to start off your 4th of July with me at the home of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence!
I’ll be inside most of the time, giving guided tours of the house. Please stop by and say hi!

Breastfeeding support group today at The Growing Place!

Today marks 20 years since I lost my mom, but her influence lives on. She’s the one who inspired me to do what I do. 💞

This little girl inspired me to be who I am today.

This curly redhead grew up to be a gentle mother who adored human babies and furbabies. She was the type of person who would perform CPR on a hamster. (She did. Successfully.) She found joy in sewing - costumes, dresses, matching kids’ outfits (as long as there weren’t zippers involved). A campfire in the woods was her happy place. She loved musicals and had (or made up) a song for every situation.

She cherished the years she spent breastfeeding her four children. “The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding” was a permanent fixture on her bedroom shelf. In the late 80s, her dream job was to “sit and nurse AIDS babies all day.” Some of her most beloved friendships began at La Leche League meetings.

Looking back, it’s easy to see why breastfeeding is such a huge part of my life. But at the time, my mom was just taking care of her babies. She had no idea how much she would influence us.
