A service doesn’t have to be traditional or somber.

Today, many families choose celebrations of life that reflect the hobbies, stories, and spirit of their loved one.

Our Hillside team can help you design a service that feels personal, whether it’s music-filled, story-driven, or simply a gathering of family and friends.

Children experience grief differently from adults. They may ask hard questions one moment and be ready to play the next.

What they need most is honesty, consistency, and reassurance that their feelings are safe.

At Hillside Chapel, we find that gentle conversations, routines, and love can help them process loss in healthy ways.

Grief isn’t only emotional—it shows up in our bodies, too.

Fatigue, aches, or even forgetting to eat are common when you’re carrying deep loss. That’s why tending to your body, even in small ways, is so important.

A glass of water, a quiet walk, or an early bedtime may seem simple, but they’re acts of kindness to yourself.

At Hillside Chapel, we know that caring for your body is part of caring for your heart as you heal.

The last Sunday of September is dedicated to Gold Star Mothers and Families—those who have borne the profound loss of a loved one in military service.

Their courage, resilience, and sacrifice deserve our deepest respect.

Today, Hillside Chapel honors not only the heroes who served, but also the families who carry their memory and legacy in their hearts every day.

When making final arrangements, one of the biggest questions is burial or cremation. The right choice depends on your values, traditions, and personal wishes.

At Hillside, we take time to walk families through the options, ensuring decisions are made with confidence and peace of mind.

September reminds us of the importance of talking openly about su***de.

For survivors, silence can deepen the pain. For those struggling, silence can feel isolating.

Together, we can break that silence—with compassion, honesty, and hope. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call 988.

Hearing from families reminds us why we do what we do. At Hillside, our goal is to offer more than services—we aim to be a source of comfort, guidance, and steady support.

Your trust is the greatest honor we could receive, Jennifer.

There’s so much pressure to “move on” after loss — to get back to work, smile politely, and make it seem like everything is okay.

But here’s the truth: moving on isn’t the goal. Love doesn’t disappear, and neither does the bond.

You carry it forward. In the way you tell their stories. In the recipes you still make. In the music that brings them rushing back.

At Hillside, we believe that healing isn’t about erasing the past — it’s about learning how to live beside it, with softness and strength.

The firsts hit hard.

The first birthday without them. The first holiday. The first trip to their favorite restaurant where their chair sits empty.

Nobody warns you how ordinary days — back-to-school shopping, weekend errands, or an August sunset — can catch you off guard with a wave of absence.

At Hillside, we honor the emotional terrain of what comes after, and we’re here for the moments that don’t make headlines but still break your heart a little.

Not everyone wants a black suit, a solemn room, and organ music.

And that’s okay.

Today’s funerals can be as creative and personal as the people they honor — from backyard BBQs to beachside gatherings, live music, photo displays, or silent walks.

At Hillside, we work with families to co-create goodbyes that feel authentic, not obligatory.

Grief isn’t always visible.

You can be laughing on the outside and aching on the inside.

You can look “strong” and still feel shattered.

On National Grief Awareness Day, we invite you to name your grief. Speak it. Honor it. Let someone know it’s still there.

And if you don’t know what to say to someone grieving? Try this: “I’m thinking of them today--and of you.”
