Children's Center

Children's Center Work with the community to end child abuse and neglect through assessment, treatment, and prevention.

Children’s Center is a private, non-profit child abuse intervention center accredited by the National Children’s Alliance. Each year, Children’s Center conducts medical examinations and interviews for more than 400 Clackamas County children who are suspected victims of abuse and neglect—while providing resources, referrals, or other support to more than 300 additional families. Families are never billed for services at Children’s Center. Medical insurance and government grants account for approximately 60% of our funding. The remaining costs associated with medically assessing and supporting who are suspected victims of child abuse and neglect are covered by generous donors.

Join us next Tuesday for our Community Conversations event in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month 💙

As part of our quarterly networking and learning series, we’re excited to welcome Kylee Weron, LCSW, a social worker with the North Clackamas School District and a HOPE trainer. She’ll be sharing about the Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE) model, which we’ve integrated into our prevention work.

Positive experiences can ease toxic stress and help children and youth grow into more resilient, healthier adults. The HOPE model identifies ways that our communities and systems of care can better ensure that all children have more positive experiences and that all families have support to nurture and celebrate their strengths. Come together to learn about the research behind and practical application of the HOPE framework.

Parenting is hard, even under the best of circumstances. Finding community and support is important to help ease the burden during hard moments. Whether story time at the library, an organized play group, or attending a parenting education class, there are so many ways to connect with others who are experiencing the same journey. Helping parents and children feel seen, validated and supported is a way we can all contribute to strong community.

Check out our community partner Clackamas Parenting Together for local classes and opportunities for connection. Our book, Raising Happy, Healthy, Safe Kids is a great resource for other parenting tips and ideas.

Thank you to weridetogether.today for sending us a whole box of meaningful companions, we know they will be deeply cherished by the children who take them home.

We were recently introduced to , an organization dedicated to eliminating sexual abuse and misconduct in youth and amateur sports. Their mission is truly inspiring, and we’re honored to be part of that work.

That’s where Agano comes in.

Carrie, the founder of , created the stuffed horse Agano (inspired by her real horse of the same name) as a symbol of comfort and care. Designed to offer solace during difficult moments, he has become a trusted companion for children navigating their path toward recovery.

Thank you again to for the incredible and important work you do.

We had the honor of hosting a recent visit from the Mt. Hood Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse International (B.A.C.A.). While they serve our local community, B.A.C.A. is an international organization doing truly remarkable work.

Their mission is to provide aid, comfort, safety, and support to children who have experienced abuse. B.A.C.A. is grounded in the belief that every child has the fundamental right to feel safe and protected. When a child or teen’s sense of safety has been compromised, this dedicated group stands ready to offer unwavering support and a powerful presence to help restore that sense of security.

As stated in B.A.C.A.’s mission: they exist to empower children to no longer feel afraid of the world in which they live. They send a clear message that these children are not alone—that they are supported and have a community willing to stand beside them, both emotionally and physically. Their presence serves as a shield, helping to prevent further harm and giving children the strength to reclaim their confidence.

Thank you to the Mt. Hood Chapter, for spending an afternoon at our Center, and for the meaningful, life-changing work you do every day to protect children and help them reclaim their power. 💙
