The children in Mindful Monkeys and Mindful Kids really enjoyed this new book that was shared with them! 📕📚

“In this warm and heartfelt story, a little girl and Green, her favorite crayon, draw the world around them and fill it with color and emotion. Over the years, they create art projects, greeting cards, and mementos together, each helping the other learn valuable lessons about connecting to others and making meaning in life.”

The story touches on themes such as impermanence and leaving a mark on the world. The children reflected on some of their personal values, traits, and gifts and the small ways they can make a difference in the lives of others. 🌎💜

The children in Mindful Monkeys learned the difference between having a spotlight of attention vs. a floodlight of attention, and that we can pay attention to things on the outside as well as on the inside. We explored these ideas in the context of camping in the woods looking for nocturnal animals. Quiet processing through creative endeavors helps children slow down, use their imaginations, and find meaning in the skills they learn. 🏕️ 🦨 🦫 🦉

"It is important, as we get older, to learn how to grieve. Although this may sound self-evident, experience has taught me that it is not. In a culture that emphasizes stoicism and forward movement, in which time is deemed 'of the essence,' and there is little toleration for slowness, inwardness, and melancholy, grieving – a healthy, necessary aspect of life – is too often overlooked.

Over the years, in working with people who are grieving, I’ve encouraged them first of all to surrender to the experience of their pain. To counteract our natural tendency to turn away from pain, we open to it as fully as possible and allow our hearts to break.

We must take enough time to remember our losses – be they friends or loved ones passed away, the death of long-held hopes or dreams, the loss of homes, careers, or countries, or health we may never get back again. Rather than close ourselves to grief, it helps to realize that we only grieve for what we love. "

That’s a wrap for Session I of Mindful Monkeys! The children engaged in skills training to become mindful superheroes and successfully earned their capes. The best part was learning to fly in the yoga hammock!

Session II begins next week with all new activities and creative projects! No two sessions ever look exactly the same, making it suitable for both new and returning students!

Give your child the gift of inner peace and lasting well-being! Young students will nurture their innate compassionate nature by exploring a variety of meaningful, mindfulness-based activities that strengthen awareness of self, others, and the world around them. There is ONE more opening available for the Gentle Yoga 3-week mini series at Oregon Area Senior Center on November 7, 14, 21 from 10-11 AM. Come roll out your mat and join us for this friendly, nonjudgemental practice circle!

No prior experience necessary. Having the ability to move and down from the floor with relative ease is the only requirement.

We move slowly and gently through the warm ups, stretches, poses, and exercises - all aimed to develop greater strength, flexibility, range of motion, and balance. I teach in progressions and offer modifications, so you get to choose a place to work that feels right for you.

Youth Mindfulness Classes begin next week at Maitri Center for Mindful Living in downtown Oregon WI!

5 Wednesdays, November 12-December 17 (no class on 11/25)

Mindful Monkeys (grades K-2) and Mindful Kids (grades 3-6) would love to have your child join in the richness of these programs! Your child will experience mindful movement and games, arts & crafts, relaxation techniques, and invaluable tools to support overall wellbeing.
