Happy heavenly Veterans Day to this amazing vet, David Rollins. He was my mission president and inspired me so much with his stories that I later served in the military as well. Rollins was a Navy pilot and was shot down over Vietnam. He was captured and was a POW in the Hanoi Hilton for 6 years before being released. He faced extremely difficult circumstances in his life. While I was serving my mission a small island in the Truk Lagoon my weekly mission president note that I received from him always ended with his mantra of “Hang In There, R”. Although my experiences and challenges pale in comparison to his, I can’t help but feel there was a lot behind those powerful words!
