This patient had a of the shoulder that failed conservative treatment. He underwent an arthroscopic posterior labral repair utilizing knotless all suture anchors. The final arthroscopic picture shows restoration of the normal labral bumper.

A of the shoulder is an often overlooked injury. While anterior labrum tears can often cause shoulder instability, these injuries more often cause pain. They can occur with football, weightlifting or overhead sports. Treatment typically consists of physical therapy initially with possible injections. Surgery is reserved for refractory cases and involves repair of the torn labrum with arthroscopy.

Not all are repairable. These images show an individual with persistent knee pain and swelling despite an injection and PT. He underwent surgery for partial meniscectomy to remove the unstable portion of the meniscus as seen above. He did very well and was back to normal activities pain free at only 6 weeks postop!

Another case! In many instances, when the shoulder dislocation occurs it can make a dent on the humeral head, also known as a Hill-Sachs lesion. This can lead to recurrent shoulder instability. One treatment method is known as a Remplissage, which is French for "to fill." This involves placing a portion of the shoulder capsule and posterior rotator cuff in the defect to prevent engagement on the glenoid. This individual returned back to football at the collegiate level!
