On Saturday, UCF Lake Nona Hospital recognized by hosting free youth heart screenings with Who We Play For, an Orlando-based nonprofit dedicated to eliminating sudden cardiac death in the young through affordable, attainable heart screenings. ECGs, which are painless and non-invasive were administered by the non-profit and reviewed by board-certified pediatric cardiologists with results sent to families in about 10 days.

Last year, Florida became the first state in the nation to require student athletes to pass ECGs to be eligible to play high school sports. Orange County Public Schools established this same requirement in 2021.
