Learning about cervical cancer and how to prevent it can make a powerful difference.

Routine screenings like Pap tests and HPV testing, along with the HPV vaccine, have made cervical cancer one of the most preventable cancers. These simple steps can help detect changes early and provide more options for treatment and care.

At UCF Lake Nona Hospital, we encourage women to stay informed, keep up with recommended screenings and talk with their provider about ways to protect their health.

Taking time for preventive care today can make a meaningful difference for the future.

We kicked off the week with to our partners and friends at TLC Engineering Solutions and the American Heart Association, AHA, who brought by 50 Infant CPR Kits for new parents in UCF Lake Nona Hospital's Family Birthing Unit.

These kits help families in need quickly learn and practice lifesaving infant CPR and choking-relief skills at home.

HCA Healthcare is a longstanding supporter of AHA and has given roughly $19 million to the nonprofit since 2022 for the Getting to the Heart of Stroke initiative. The sponsorship helps fund and support activities aimed at preventing and improving treatment of stroke.

It's Friday and we're since we're celebrating ICU's Denise Reyes, RN, our Daisy Award winner!

While caring for a patient who was nearing the end of her life, Denise saw a husband overwhelmed, frightened and struggling to cope with the impending loss of his wife. She stayed with him, listened to his fears, offered comfort through quiet words and gentle kindness, and reminded him that he was not alone. The husband later shared that Denise was an angel sent to him in that moment. Because of Denise, this family's final moments together were met with dignity, compassion, and love.

The Daisy Award is an international recognition that honors the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. This award is given quarterly to caregivers throughout the year who exemplify our hospital's mission, go above and beyond to deliver exceptional care to their patients, and are collaborative team members.

Thank you Denise for your compassionate patient-centered care, and all you do on behalf of our patients and community!

This morning we celebrated Natalie Pacich, respiratory therapist and our Guardian Award winner! "Natalie's positive attitude and kind spirit uplifts us all, especially during challenging times," said Latoia Williams, UCF Lake Nona Hospital Employee Advisory Group chair. "We are truly grateful for her outstanding work and dedication, and we want to honor her for fostering a culture of positivity."

The Guardian Award is presented twice a year and recognizes colleagues who uphold our culture of excellence and positivity. Regardless of position, every colleague helps cultivate, maintain and guard the culture we build together. We are tasked to guard this precious asset that helps us stand out among the rest, and we do this by attracting and accepting only top talent who share our core values. These values include a commitment to excellence and a positive attitude, which are key to maintaining a family-oriented atmosphere, integral to building each other up during difficult times, and needed to conduct business in a fair and honest manner.

Congratulations Natalie, and we are thankful to work alongside you, as we care for our Lake Nona community!
