Want to get ahead of potential heart problems with a simple screening? According to the American Heart Association, 350,000 Americans die from a cardiac arrest each year. Coronary calcium scoring is a quick, non-invasive cardiac exam that can give valuable insight into your heart health.

The inexpensive, elective screening measures the amount of calcium-containing plaque in a person’s arteries. Plaque buildup inside the arteries can grow and restrict blood flow, leading to a heart attack or other heart issues. Watch our video to learn more.

This morning UCF Lake Nona Hospital donated 563 pounds of food to help stock the shelves of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida during our Healthy Food for Healthier Tomorrows Food Drive. The donations were part of HCA Healthcare's annual fall food drive to help ease food insecurity in our communities.

In March, 80 Orlando-area HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues volunteered at the non-profit sorting and packing food and donating $20,000 to help Central Florida's hungry. This year’s initiative brings HCA Florida Healthcare’s total contribution to Second Harvest to $70,000, more than 5,000 pounds of food and more than 800 volunteer hours since the partnership began in 2021.

The hospital has also achieved a number of milestones with its patients this year, including celebrating its 5,000th baby born in the hospital’s family birthing unit, and the recent completion of the hospital’s inaugural cardiac ablation procedure, providing another treatment option for eligible patients with irregular heartbeats.

Additionally, Brandon was named to the 2025 Florida Trend’s Florida 500, recognizing the state’s most influential business leaders across various industries. It's been a few weeks since UCF Lake Nona Hospital launched Musicians On Call bedside music rounding with our friends from Shinedown.

Last month Brent Smith and Zach Myers performed an acoustic set in the hospital’s main waiting area and then brought the music right to the rooms of some of our HCA Florida Healthcare patients to help brighten their day. UCF Lake Nona Hospital CEO Wendy Brandon said "music can be a powerful part of the healing process, and we are delighted to further enrich our patient experience with live, bedside music programming!"

Volunteer guides and musicians will be available to visit and bring live music to patients on scheduled days. Music has been shown to help people heal on a physical level by providing transformative relaxation that reduces stress levels and improves cognitive function. It also provides emotional healing by helping us express feelings of grief, fear or sadness which often accompany hospital stays or end-of-life situations.

The expansion of MOC’s programs is possible thanks to a collaboration with HCA Healthcare that included a $1 million gift to fund the creation and launch of MOC’s proprietary online platform designed to enhance its program delivery and enable the organization to reach more hospital patients and healthcare workers nationwide.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outlines common diabetic symptoms as frequent urination, increased thirst and/or hunger, fatigue, dry skin, slow-healing sores, blurry vision, increased infections and unintended weight loss.

Today, and every day, we honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. We recognize our veteran colleagues, patients and families whose service and sacrifice embody our mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

This morning, we celebrated with a Home of the Free Because of the Brave Veteran's Day Breakfast courtesy of HR and our Food and Nutrition Services team. Our veterans enjoyed a delicious breakfast, lots of camaraderie and a take home HCA Healthcare Military Affairs tumbler.

This Veterans Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have honorably served for their courage, commitment and selflessness.
