This 56-year-old patient has had an incredible transformation—losing over 65 pounds after once weighing more than 200 lbs, along with the changes that come from pregnancy.
With that history, she developed significant abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti) and two hernias, both of which contributed to a weakened core and abdominal wall instability.
When the abdominal muscles separate, they no longer provide proper support. This weakness can allow tissue or fat to push through, resulting in a hernia—and if not properly addressed, hernias can continue to recur.
For her, we performed a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) combined with hernia repair and re**us plication.
During surgery, we:
Repaired both hernias
Brought the separated abdominal muscles back together with re**us plication
Removed excess skin and residual fat
Re**us plication is key—by tightening and restoring the integrity of the abdominal wall, we are not only creating a flatter contour, but also reinforcing the core. This added support helps reduce the likelihood of future hernias and improves overall abdominal function.
This is an example of how surgery can be both functional and aesthetic—restoring strength from the inside while improving appearance on the outside.
If you’ve experienced weight loss, pregnancy, or notice bulging in your abdomen, you may be dealing with muscle separation or even a hernia without realizing it.
