We are proud to share that the Central Florida Black Nurses Association participated in the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure. This event was a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness and promote diabetes education within our community.

Lois Wilson, who is a diabetes educator and nurse practitioner, played a significant role in this initiative.

Diabetes Tips:

1. **Balanced Diet**: Emphasize whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins while limiting processed foods and sugars.

2. **Regular Monitoring**: Keep track of blood sugar levels as recommended by your healthcare provider.

3. **Physical Activity**: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise weekly—walking, swimming, or cycling are great options.

4. **Stay Hydrated**: Drink plenty of water and avoid sugary beverages that can raise blood sugar levels.

5. **Weight Management**: Maintain a healthy weight; even a small weight loss can improve insulin sensitivity.

6. **Medication Adherence**: Take medications as prescribed and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.

7. **Regular Check-ups**: Schedule appointments with your healthcare team to monitor your diabetes management.

8. **Stress Management**: Engage in stress-reducing activities like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.

9. **Support Network**: Connect with support groups or organizations for encouragement and shared experiences.

10. **Education**: Stay informed about diabetes management through workshops or credible online resources.

Together, we can make a difference in the fight against diabetes! Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this important cause.

The Central Florida Black Nurses Association, Inc. held a successful General Membership Meeting on Thursday, February 26th, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Hosted at Orlando Regional Medical Center, located at 52 West Underwood Street in Orlando, Florida. Several members and guests were present. Mrs. Phyllis Palmer presented on Financial Planning. Member Samiah Terry Dixon from the Women of Impact Campaign for the American Heart Association discussed Go Red event.

Members dressed in red to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and its prevalence, particularly among Black women. Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for Black women in the U.S., accounting for 1 in every 2.5 deaths? Additionally, Black women are more likely to experience high blood pressure and other risk factors, emphasizing the need for awareness and prevention.

The meeting also included engaging discussions about the upcoming scholarship event on September 26th, 2026, at the DoubleTree in Orlando. We had plenty of discussions on how to enhance our community impact.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a productive evening of networking and education! ❤️🧡👩🏿‍⚕️🧑🏿‍⚕️
