Colorado just became the second state in the nation to pass an excise tax on guns and ammunition!

This week, Colorado voters voted YES on Proposition KK—a ballot measure that will set up a 6.5% excise tax on guns and ammunition to fund support services for victims of violence, mental health services, school safety measures, and gun violence prevention programs. The tax will bring in an estimated $39 million specifically for veterans, at-risk youth, and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and other violent crime.

A similar, first-of-its-kind excise tax on fi****ms went into effect earlier this year in California. This innovative measure is a major step forward in prioritizing the safety of our communities over the interests of the gun industry.
