Ramon L. Rodriguez, MD - Fellowship Trained in Movement Disorders
Dr. Ramon L. Rodriguez received his medical degree (M.D.) from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus in San Juan, PR, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Rodriguez completed his Internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. After this, he completed his residency in Neurology at the same institution under the mentorship of Dr. John Calverley. After finishing his residency, Dr. Rodriguez completed a fellowship in the Medical and Surgical management of Movement Disorders under the mentorship of Michael S. Okun, MD, Hubert H. Fernandez, MD, and Dr. Kelly Foote, MD. Following his fellowship, he was honored with an invitation to join as a faculty member in the Department of Neurology at the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. During his tenure at UF, Dr. Rodriguez held the position of Director of Clinical Services for the University of Florida Center for Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration and Director of the Clinical Research Center for Neurological Disorders, where he supervised over 50 clinical research studies encompassing areas such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, Dystonia, Alzheimer's Disease, Deep Brain Stimulation, Advanced therapies for Parkinson's disease, Telemedicine for Movement Disorders and the quality of care initiative for best care for patients with movement disorders. Afterwards, Dr. Rodriguez had the role of Chief of the Neurology Service at the Orlando VA Medical Center. During his tenure, he established the Parkinson’s Disease Consortia Site, a Center of Excellence for PD, providing outstanding care to the veteran population with PD in a multidisciplinary approach.
For more than a decade, Dr. Rodriguez has followed his passion of caring for patients with complex movement disorders and cognitive disorders. Besides PD, Dr. Rodriguez also cares for patients with “Parkinson’s plus syndromes”, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. He has performed over 10,000 botulinum toxin procedures and spent many years performing clinical research looking to delay or arrest the progression of neurodegenerative disorders. His expertise as a physician and his extensive experience in research awarded him multiple accolades, including one of the Top Doctors in Orlando, 40 under 40 and he was awarded the status of Fellow, American Academy of Neurology, acknowledging his exemplary work and achievements in the neurosciences, the clinical practice of neurology, academic and administrative neurology, in the AAN, and in the community.
Dr. Rodriguez has extensive experience as a teaching clinical faculty at the UF College of Medicine and the UCF College of Medicine, teaching residents and medical students. Because of his excellent teaching qualities, Dr. Rodriguez has been invited to lecture in several national and international forums, been honored with the opportunity to teach doctors about the proper assessment of patients with neurological disorders, how to conduct research in human subjects and how to treat patients in all stages of PD, HD and Dystonia, among others.
Dr. Rodriguez is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, Movement Disorders Society, IAPRD, Huntington's Study Group and Parkinson Study Group, among others.
Lourdes Benes, MD - Fellowship Trained in Cognitive & Behavioral Disorders and Movement Disorders
Dr. Lourdes Benes is a compassionate physician with outstanding bedside manners, showing a genuine interest for her patients. Dr. Benes completed her medical school at the New York Medical College and received her residency training in Neurology at the University of South Florida. After completing her medical training, Dr. Benes served her community for 10 years, providing outstanding and compassionate care to patients with neurological disorders. After 10 years in medical practice, Dr. Benes decided to pursue her passion for patients with Movement and Cognitive Disorders, and completed a dual clinical and research fellowship in Movement Disorders under the mentorship of Ramon L Rodriguez, MD and Behavioral and Cognitive Disorders under the guidance of Michael Hoffmann, MD, PhD. During her training, Dr. Benes had the opportunity to care for patients with very complex movement disorders and received specialty training caring for those with memory disorders. Dr. Benes training combined both medical care, along with an approach to lifestyle changes, introducing diet, exercise and relaxation techniques as part of the care plan to improve the quality of life of patients. Using this approach, we can improve people’s lives while using the lowest amount of medications.
During her training and career, Dr. Benes has been awarded multiple awards, including Chief Resident, USF Neurology Program, USF Outstanding Resident o the Year Award, USF Resident of the Year Award and Florida Society of Neurology Travel Fellowship Award.
Dr. Benes’ training puts her in a unique situation where she is one of a handful of physicians in the world that have been trained not only in movement disorders, but also the cognitive aspects associated with them along with other neurodegenerative disorders. She brings her expertise to Neurology One, to establish a multidisciplinary care network for the benefit of the community.

“My family and I live in Orlando, FL where we enjoy an active lifestyle raising our 5-year-old boy Gustavo and 3-year-old twins Camila and Victoria. I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and I’m the oldest of three girls. I am honored to have followed in my father’s footsteps of becoming a physician as he is an OBGYN and yes, he delivered my three babies as well as all his 8 grandchildren. My mother is a special human being who instilled in me the faith and work ethic I a follow daily. When I can, I enjoy playing tennis, exercising and traveling. I am blessed to have married to my college sweetheart (20 years going strong), Eduardo, who is an investment advisor”.
Nina Tsakade, MD, PhD - Fellowship Trained in Headache and Facial Pain
Nina Tsakadze, MD, PhD is one of only a handful of certified headache specialists in the country, with over 20 years of experience in the Comprehensive Treatment of Headaches and other Neurological disorders. She holds Board Certification in Neurology from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in Headache Medicine from the United States Council for Neurological Subspecialties. Dr. Nina Tsakadze received her medical degree (MD) from the Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU), Tbilisi, Georgia. She completed her internship and her first neurology residency at the TSMU and joined the staff of the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Neurology in Tbilisi, Georgia - a leading neurological institution in the Caucasus. She further advanced her career entering a Graduate School at the TSMU, graduated with honors and obtained her PhD in Medical Science.
Dr. Tsakadze was awarded a prestigious International Thrombosis Vascular Training Fellowship Award, and spent 6 months at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN. She continued her research at the University of Louisville, Louisville, KY, where she was received Postdoctoral Fellowship award for investigation of the molecular mechanisms of vascular disease from the American Heart Association. After passing US Medical License Examinations she completed Internship at the Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center in New York, followed by her second neurology residency at the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL. She continued her specialization in the field of Headache Medicine and completed Headache and Facial Pain Fellowship under mentorship of Dr. Maria-Carmen Wilson at the tertiary care Headache Center at Tampa General Hospital, where she gained expertise in treating patients with refractory and complex headache disorders. She received Excellence Award for her performance as Headache Fellow from the Tampa General Hospital. After completing her fellowship, she was invited to join the Faculty of the Neurology Department at the University of South Florida and TGH Headache Center, teaching residents, fellows and medical students, in addition to her clinical work. Dr. Tsakadze continued her career at the Orlando VA Medical Center, where she established a comprehensive Headache Center, where she is able to provide outstanding care to veterans suffering from headache and other neurological disorders. She is also an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Central Florida, and continues her work as an educator teaching medical students and residents.
Dr. Tsakadze has an extensive experience in treating headaches and other neurological disorders, including complicated and refractory cases, using a comprehensive approach. She is skilled in neurological procedures, including use of neurotoxins (Botox) and nerve blocks, and has been teaching health care providers how to administer Botox and perform nerve blocks. She has an impressive research background in both basic and clinical medicine, striving to understand mechanisms of disease, and develop innovative treatments, which include in addition to mainstream traditional methods, also non-traditional holistic approach.
She is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and American Headache Society. She regularly attends professional meetings in neurology and headache nationally and worldwide, to stay up to date with the rapidly advancing neuroscience. Dr. Tsakadze has been invited speaker at the professional educational events, and published numerous articles in scientific journals.
