What is a common cause of sensory overload?

When the cerebellum isn’t functioning properly, it is unable to filter information properly to the cortex. This leads to a sensory overload.

The goal of chiropractic and network spinal care is to create balance within the nervous system.

The goal of an adjustment is to balance the two hemispheres to try to normalize sensory input and emotional regulation. We are trying to get the left side of the brain and the right side of the brain in sync.

-The hemispheres are balancing with each adjustment, which leads to healthier emotional regulation and better overall health & well-being!!

Research using EEG scans was performed during adjustments and showed BOTH hemispheres of the brain lit up simultaneously with an instantaneous 20% increase in brain activity! And not only just an increase in activity, a SYMMETRICAL increase in brain activity!

✨How to increase adaptability?✨

Get the body out of a STUCK sympathetic state! If the nervous system is stuck in a stressed out, fight-or-flight state, it can’t properly regulate and heal! This means systems, like the immune system, can’t function at 100%...which makes the body more susceptible to sickness!

The body’s ability to adapt is the truest measurement of health.

How do we measure the body’s ability to adapt and heal❓

At IWC, Heart Rate Variability, or HRV for short, is one of the tests that we do during our new patient exam! HRV is a measure of the variation in time between each heart beat, and is controlled by our autonomic nervous system.

HRV is an amazing way to check imbalances with the autonomic nervous system. If a person is stuck in a fight-or-flight, sympathetic state, their HRV is low. If a person is in a more relaxed, parasympathetic state, their HRV is higher.

What are the benefits of having a higher HRV?🤔

A higher HRV means the nervous system is calmer and can better adapt to stressors that come about. It means you are more resilient. Health is ultimately how well can your body adapt and heal.

🌟How can chiropractic and network spinal care help increase HRV?

Our care at IWC is designed to remove nervous system interference. When you can remove interference, the nervous system can heal and function more optimally.
This allows the body to get in a calmer, parasympathetic state. In a parasympathetic state, the body can increase its ability to self-regulate which promotes more healing and a higher HRV.

✨What is a common cause of sensory overload?✨

The cerebellum (aka the little brain) is located at the base of the skull, where the spinal cord meets the brain. The body’s hundreds of thousands of receptors for vision, motion, & positioning constantly send info to the brain.

The cerebellum condenses it and filters it on its way to the brain’s cortex. The cortex then decides what the cerebellum will tell the body to do about the information.-The Functional Neurology Center.

When the cerebellum isn’t functioning properly, it is unable to filter the information properly to the cortex. This leads to a sensory overload.

Symptoms of this can be:
✨anxiety
✨irritability
✨digestive issues
✨insomnia
✨light sensitivity
✨increased emotional response
✨wide-based walking
✨decreased coordination
✨weak muscles

How can chiropractic and network spinal help with sensory overload?

The goal of chiropractic and network spinal care is to create balance within the nervous system.

The regulation of our emotions and attention are greatly impacted if the hemispheres are out of balance or not
“speaking to each other appropriately.” For example, children that have ADHD tendencies (sensory overload) are typically left hemisphere dominant.

The goal of an adjustment is to balance the two hemispheres to try to normalize sensory input and emotional regulation. We are trying to get the left side of the brain and the right side of the brain in sync.

In research conducted by Dr. Heidi Haavic, an EEG was used during a chiropractic adjustment. What the EEG studies showed was incredible. Both hemispheres of the brain lit up simultaneously with an instantaneous 20% increase in brain activity! And not only just an increase in activity, a SYMMETRICAL increase in brain activity! This finding is extremely significant because if a child has a dominant hemisphere, after they receive an adjustment their left and right brain hemispheres are SYNCING! The hemispheres are balancing with each adjustment, which leads to healthier emotional regulation and better overall health & well-being!
