Heart valve conditions affect millions, with an estimated 2.5% of U.S. adults having some form of heart valve disease (HVD).

A major complication of HVD is infective endocarditis, when heart valves are infected by bacteria in the bloodstream. While uncommon, it does carry risks that are difficult to diagnose with standard testing alone, especially when cultures don't identify the pathogen.

If providers suspect an infection but the cause is elusive, in-depth microbial testing can help identify pathogens at the DNA level — giving clinicians a clearer view to guide their approach to protecting heart health.

This Heart Valve Awareness Day, our team recognizes the importance of timely detection and care and the efforts of clinicians who safeguard heart valve health.

The body isn't one environment.
It's many microbiomes, all connected.
Sinuses. Respiratory. Urinary. & more.

When one of these environments is infected, getting answers starts with testing where the infection lives — not only from symptoms.

At MicroGenDX, our DNA testing is designed to work across these clinical microbiomes by identifying over 60,000 pathogens. With greater clarity, your doctor can treat the root cause.

Most infections don't fail detection, they fail to grow in a lab.
Culture testing depends on growing bacteria outside the body.

While regarded as the standard of care, it detects about 2% of known bacteria, leaving some infections unseen.

Next-Gen DNA Sequencing (NGS) looks for microbial DNA directly in your sample.

Able to identify 60,000+ microbes with 99.2% accuracy, NGS complements culture results with microbe-level analysis — as Tamara's experience shows.

Thank you, Tamara, for sharing your story.

Recovering from an infection isn’t always so simple.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria stop responding to antibiotics, making infections harder to treat.

It’s more common than many realize. In the U.S., 2.8M+ drug-resistant infections occur each year, and 1 in 6 infections no longer responds to standard treatment.

Switching from a trial-and-error approach to care to a targeted one starts with better insight. MicroGenDX testing reports both pathogens and antibiotic resistance markers upfront, helping providers support recovery while managing antibiotic use — preserving the effectiveness of key medicines.

Valentine's Day is about love and connection. Caring for each other's health is a part of that.

CouplesKEY helps partners test together, bringing clarity to shared intimate health using leading-edge molecular testing.

When both partners have access to the same in-depth results, conversations with providers are smoother and moving forward feel less uncertain.

Supporting each other means more than flowers or chocolates.
It means taking your shared health seriously, together.

We’re in Cancun and ready for the ENT Colloquium!

If you’ll be at the Barceló Maya Palace this weekend, stop by the MicroGenDX exhibitor display. We’re here to discuss how qPCR + NGS is supporting ENT clinicians in managing chronic sinusitis, CSOM, and other challenging infections where traditional culture may not tell the full story.

Looking forward to it!

🚀 The next frontier in molecular diagnostics is not detection- it's interpretation.

NGS tells you what organisms are present. Clinicians determine:
⭐ When they matter
⭐ When they don't
⭐ Whether the result reflects infection, colonization, or contamination

NGS is not a replacement for clinical judgment- it strengthens it.
The Clinician's Guide to the Genomic Galaxy provides frameworks for interpretation.

Accuracy in clinical testing comes down to how closely a result reflects what’s actually in the sample.

Standard culture testing relies on growing microbes in a lab. That process can be affected by shipping and handling, prior antibiotic use, biofilms, and the biology of the organisms themselves. Some bacteria, like fastidious microbes, may not grow well or at all.

NGS takes a different approach by identifying pathogens at the genetic level — achieving 99.2% accuracy.
From urology to orthopedics, NGS delivers highly accurate, dependable results to help inform your provider’s next steps with greater clinical clarity.

Ever notice nail changes that don’t go away?
Thickened, discolored, brittle, or misshapen nails can be more than cosmetic concerns.

They can be signs of a nail infection, such as onychomycosis.

NailKEY uses Next-Gen DNA Sequencing (NGS) to analyze microbial DNA directly from a nail sample, along with PCR to detect drug-resistance markers.

Together, these methods can identify over 60,000 pathogens with 99.2% accuracy.

By providing clearer insight into the microbes involved, NailKEY supports more informed conversations with your healthcare provider.

Not all microbes grow when exposed to oxygen.

Culture testing relies on growing bacteria in a lab environment, which can make slow-growth and anaerobic microbes hard to find.

When these microbes don't thrive under lab conditions, they can escape detection.

Good news: Next-Gen DNA Sequencing (NGS) doesn't rely on growth. By directly analyzing microbial DNA at the infection site, it can identify a broader range of microbes, including oxygen-hating anaerobes.

If answers aren't showing up, a change in test method may help.
